I substituted rounds of P90x3, T25 and now i'm doing the new Insanity which is gonna kill me.
Being able to carry your body weight is important after all. If you manage to save up some money, buy the bowflex dumbbells. It's about $300 but you can alter the weight from 5lbs to 52.5 which will gave you alot of flexibility with weight lifting. A pull up bar is also recommended.
You just have to commit. There's nothing wrong with not going to the gym. I had to give up the gym because it was too time consuming with my work schedule. Now I can do a quick 30 min to an hour workout at home and not have to worry about driving, looking for parking, blah blah lol.
