What's with guys riding the stationary bike until there's a puddle of sweat all around them?

I'm sorry but I find that to be kinda nasty and inconsiderate. Ok, maybe at Arnold's gym it wouldn't be...but not at 24.

I seen someone a few weeks ago, and there was water ALL over the floor. Like, I thought maybe his water broke. But, it was sweat! Then yesterday, I sat next to someone and I'm looking over, and his hands are all sweaty, then I look down and there's a building puddle of sweat all on the floor, and my bike only had maybe a foot of space in between.

I was like eeeuggghnh. I changed my half HR to just ten minutes. I mean, I don't know if it's just their body chemistry, or if they're just really exerting themselves to sweat that much....but I be like uh uh. They need to take that outside. Other people have to get on that bike. I always spray the bikes down before I get on anyway.

Yes! There is a guy at my gym who I see sometimes on weekends. He plants himself on one of the stationary bikes for one hour and pedals a million miles a minute until the floor all around the bike is totally wet. icon_mad.gif

Ummm.......it's a fucking GYM. People are there to......ummm........workout. Ya know, "break a sweat?" icon_rolleyes.gif Now I'm not a sweater. I can stay on the treadmill all day and you won't see a single bead of sweat on my forehead. BUT, everyone is different. Are you saying the people who sweat shouldn't exercise? It's not like they're defecating; they're sweating. It's basically just water.

This is like going to the beach and complaining about sand in your shoes.

Some people just think of themselves. There is such a thing as 'Gym Etiquette'. Well supposed to be. Some of them, listed: (a) Make use of a training towel at all times, (b) Do not hog the weights or make as if you own any aparatus, (c) If you want to wear tights, at least wear underwear beneath, to keep the 'junk' in the trunk, (d) mirrors are there to assist in perfecting your routine, so you can see if you are excercising correctly, they are not there for you to practice your posing and look like yesterday's plank...just a few!

Oh please stop being so self absorbed. This is why so many people are intimidated by the gym. Too many jerks worrying about everyone else. Is he not cleaning the bike after he is done? Is it really a puddle or is his shirt soaked and you're disgusted because he's not fuckable?

Sounds like poor gym set-up. Copious sweat is part of riding a bicycle at any serious level of effort. On a real bike, air passage evaporates it away as fast as it forms. On a stationary bike, you need a big-ass fan set up to do it. (When you stop, the sweat seems to suddenly gush for a few minutes, unless it's really cold out. But really, the only thing that has changed is the air flow.)

Is this one of those gyms that are just set up for fat women to sit on the equipment and eat donuts?

Good, valid point. However at the same token have some consideration for other people around you.

Ho, shut the fuck up. I am not worried about who is Fuckable. If I wanted to fuck him I would, and I could. but I don't, so I won't.

I'm being self absorbed? How exactly am I being self absorbed? And YES, in the first case there was literally a puddle of sweat all over. And in the second case, it wasn't as bad...but I think if I would have stayed for the entire time, it would have been.

Now, if someone is fucking me or me fucking them, they can sweat til they're wet. Like Nelly said, "that good sex got you so wet, got a ocean all in my bed." But see...I have a waterproof mattress cover for that. I wouldn't do that at the gym.

No, no, no. It's not like going to the beach and complaining about sand. Come on now.

I agree with the gym etiquette comments. Now, I'm not trying to be a bitch or anything, yes people sweat. I'm not a sweater. But how about this, it may be a GYM, but the cardio area isn't a fucking SAUNA lol. If someone has to sweat to a point where the floor beneath them is puddled all over, then something isn't right. Plus, I don't see this everyday so it ain't like sand on a fucking beach. Sand will always be there, 5 gallons of sweat on the floor is avoidable.

And no, sweat is not just water. You think that shit is filtered? Have you ever taken a single class on biology or fitness? Why do you think clothes, car interiors, and stuff like hats smell like ass after you sweat on them? Sweat contains all sorts of toxins, and I don't want someone's ass juice on the same seat I'm going to sit on...

Ah ha, I knew it wasn't normal. I just found this:

    Hyperhidrosis

In some people, the body's mechanism for cooling itself is overactive, so overactive that they may sweat four or five times more than is necessary, or normal.[15] Millions of people are affected by this condition, but more than half never receive treatment due to embarrassment or lack of awareness. While it most commonly affects the armpits, feet, and hands, it is possible for someone to experience this condition over their whole body. The face is another common area for hyperhidrosis to be an issue. Sweating uncontrollably is not always expected and may be embarrassing to sufferers of the condition. It can cause both physiological and emotional problems in patients. It is generally an inherited problem that is found in each ethnic group. It is not life-threatening, but it is threatening to a person's quality of life. A treatment modality is clipping of the sympathic nerve at the level of T4 by thoracoscopic means.

So now you are proud of hitching about people who might has a medical condition. Most intelligent adults are aware of hyperhydrosis so I assumed you knew about it. There can also be other factors as well. My body actually secrets hormones that make me sweat when my bladder becomes full. It doesn't always happen but when it dies I'm suddenly drenched in sweat. I really doubt there was a puddle near the guy especially if he was wearing cotton which is highly absorbent. Even then there would be sweat on his pants and in his socks before it puddled on the floor he would have to be dripping all over for a puddle to actually formm. He'd have to be so wet there were water droplets trailing behind him as he left.

Im not hitching on anyone. I'm just saying they need to ride their bike outside, or in the sauna, if they have a medical condition.

And I still don't know why you don't believe me. Yes, their clothes were soaking wet. Yes, there were drip, drip, drip of sweat falling onto the floor. And yes, the first guy I seen there with this "disorder", the floor had sweat ALL AROUND THE BIKE. He was wiping up and cleaning all around with paper towels trying to soak it up.

I wouldn't be makin this stuff up if it wasn't true. I don't care about a sweaty person. I do care about ass juice on the floor.

...and this is another solution. Sweat out to sea far, far away from the drinking water source

Wow you are either trolling or you are a horrible person for recommending someone put their life danger by doing cardio in a sauna, heat stroke, than make you feel uncomfortable. The fact that the person was cleaning it up makes it even worse. I would have far more questions than answers about a guy like that. You'd be better off asking our resident therapist if he there was a way to broach the subject with him so that you could find solutions that would not only help him but encourage him to keep working out. You should be proud of him for going to the gym and putting in the effort to better himself. Doubly so if he has a condition that would cause adults to a shitty entitled attitude about him.

He could bring towel for the floor. If he is wearing sweat wicking fabric he should switch to a very dark heavy cotton which will absorb more sweat and if its jet black hide the sweat. He can also wear loose cotton pants not shorts which will increase the amount of sweat he can absorb before it drips. He can tuck in his shirt which for sweat to spread to his pants before dripping. He can bring an extra set of clothes to change into mid workout. Since you clearly couldn't care less about the dude someone else would be better at helping him because your disgust will shine through and you are more likely to discourage him from continuing to better himself than anything else. If it is a medical condition he maybe resistant to medication and unable to afford botox which is used to treat hyperhydrosis as well.

I probably wouldn't use that bike after him but there's always free bikes at my gym. People seem to gravitate to the treadmills more than anything.

If he doesn't wipe the seat, handlebars, etc. afterwards I would be annoyed by him but I'm not sure I'd expect him to mop the floor.
