    Hi Guys,

Staying in San Jose for 2 weeks and was a bit disappointed last weekend to find out that the Mariposa Grove jas been closed off to the public.

Would you know of other Giant Redwood locations that are considerably colossal near San Jose? Yosemite was a 4 hour drive from here, hopefully there are groves much closer to my area?

    Much appreciated!

Google is your friend. But no, there are only 3 major groves in the state.

Not closer, but bigger, Sequoia National Park is south of Yosemite.

Much closer to you (but perhaps closed because of ongoing fires ? ? - you should call to find out) is Calaveras Big Trees State Park - on highway 4 near Arnold, about 70 miles east of Stockton.

There are redwood groves at Big Sur, just south of Monterey. Redwood groves are much cooler than sequoia groves anyway - they're near the coast and have a very sweet spooky/quiet vibe. Here's a link to some places you can hike:

When I had a Sunday to kill, once, I drove up some steep little goat trail out of Cupertino, up and over the mountain to Half Moon Bay. There was a pretty impressive redwood grove on the way. Nobody else there. Nice drive. I couldn't tell you exactly which route after this much time.
