Just give your body what it needs to gain muscle and function properly without consuming foods that too high in fat and sugar (refined especially), and you will lose BF if you train regularly. For me, my body doesn't maintain fat if I give it food that can't store a lot of it. I was recently sick and didn't eat as much food as I used to, and i definitely lost some muscle, but I lost a lot more fat, and my abs are really good now even though i'm lighter than I want to be, so if you're cutting prepare to become leaner.

Be aware if you have hard to get rid of fat areas. Backfat, love handles etc. Be patient fat does not come off spot specific.

Carry trail mix (sour cherries, raspberries, blueberries, walnuts, dark chocolate bits is my favorite) and 33-50 ounces of water with you. Consuming these when you are hungry takes away the edge and supplies the body with a much better balance of carbs and fats.

I wasn't talking about hiv, but I guess that subject is more relatable to you

It is not. Sexual excessiveness won't burn fat...in fact, certain needed minerals will be quickly depleted and lead to body health diminishment.

Start tracking what you eat. You may be getting too much or too little of something. I use Myfitnesspal.com, which also has an smartphone app. When I started tracking, I discovered that I was not getting enough protein.

At my gym, we offer metabolic assessments which took in June. Knowing my nutritional needs as well as my heart-rate zones allowed me to tweak my nutrition and plan my workouts.

I was 15% body fat in June and I'm now at 9.6%

If you give up bread and things made with ALL WHEAT, you'll loose all that excess fat faster and easier. Seriously, watch the BREAD!! Give up cows milk and you will be on a fast track to loss!

There's some good advice in here. If you belong to a gym, they probably have a body fat calculator so you can get before measurements. Definitely using a calorie tracker is critical. I've used Lose It and My Plate before. Figure out what your caloric needs are. As long as you're burning more calories than you're taking in you should lose weight but as others have noted there's no such thing as spot reduction.

Quality of your diet and when you eat can be very important too. Focus in on lean proteins, whole grains, and make sure you get 5 or more servings of fruit and veggies every day (eat your colors). Eating 5-6 smaller meals a day rather than 3 large ones will help to increase your metabolism. Someone else mentioned the importance of staying hydrated. Also, protein will keep you fuller longer and less likely to be turned into fat than excessive carbs. I drink a lot of green tea (fresh brewed not the store bought HFCS, chemical laden crap) since that's supposed to boost metabolism as well.

On the exercise front cardio is a great way to burn calories but too much can waste muscle. Make sure you're using the right machines. Ellipticals and rowers involve more of the body and will burn more calories than a bike or stair stepper at the same intensity. Weight lifting done at the right intensity will get your heart going just as well as cardio. It has the added benefit of keeping your metabolism fired up throughout the day, long after your workout has finished. Hope that helps!
