Fired Vatican insider: Over 50% of priests are gay

"employing gay priests “works exceptionally well” for the Catholic Church — because guilt makes for better priests.

Speaking with German magazine Stern, David Berger said, “It’s down to homosexuality being demonized in the Church. It’s a very severe sin.” Therefore, the idea of a celibate priest — who is never questioned about his perpetual bachelor status — becomes highly appealing to gay men.

That means the Catholic Church has “the advantage of having many gay men with a guilty conscience. They do their best to be especially smart, loyal to the pope, and hard working. Which is why they have the best chances for a career and, through this, get into the Vatican. There, they find a network of gay men in which people help each other out.”

Berger claims that this is the most important rule in the Vatican: You can have gay sex, but in public you must remain true to the Church’s principles and never talk about it.

“I think that may be down to being gay being an important apparatus of power,” Stern says. “After coming out, those in power don’t have anything left with which to hold you down That’s a disaster beyond all expectations.”

So the Vatican is basically a club for closeted gay men with a guilty conscience - sounds like a few RJ conservatives missed their calling.

Catholic Priest Blames Children For ‘Seeking Affection’ From Pedophiles, Thinks Gays Are Sick

"Don Gino Flaim, 75, of the Diocese of Trento in Northern Italy, has been removed from his position and banned from preaching after his comments were aired on the private La 7 network on Tuesday."

"Asked if he believed the children were in any way responsible, he said: “In many cases, yes.”

Flaim said that while he could “understand” pedophilia, he could not understand the “sickness” of homosexuality."

It should be obvious why the percentage of gay men in the Roman priesthood is so high.

Gay Roman Catholics are made to feel horribly guilty. Some think that by taking vows of celibacy they will somehow be freed from their "sinful" attractions, so they become priests. Of course it doesn't work; their attractions for the same sex remain. I don't doubt that some Roman priests succeed in keeping their vows of celibacy, but obviously not all of them do; the percentage of those who do not is unknown and probably will always be unknown.

The way the Roman Church is structured is just asking for trouble. Power comes exclusively from the top down. It is basically a self-perpuating autocracy that encourages lay members to put priests and their superiors on an impossibly high pedestal and trust them to an unreasonable degree.

The current Bishop of Rome is like a badly needed breath of fresh air but in the long run it is unclear just how much he can accomplish towards eliminating the multitude of inevitable problems resulting from the way the church is structured. The only lasting solution would be to change the structure of the church so that it would not be ruled from the top down, the laity would have a much bigger rôle, and the church would not be considered to be infallible and superior to all other churches. Attempts to make such lasting changes could actually result in assassination.

    This is 100% true.
The repressive Catholic belief system on sexuality is truly sick, causing all kinds of mental health issues, in both gay and straight people.
This is why so many people I know refer to themselves as "Recovering Catholics."

The announcement by a Polish priest (Monsignor Krzyeztf Charamsa) working at the Vatican that he is gay has sent the r.c. church in a tizzy. A spokesman for the church, Monsignor Federico Lombardi, made a statement denouncing his coming out by saying, "The decision to make a pointed statement on the eve of the opening of the synod appears very serious and irresponsible since it amounts to subjecting the synod assembly to undue pressure"
Au contraire. This is as good a time as any to confront the issue of gay priests, who are said to be as high as half of the priesthood, as well as the church's relations with gays, which is appalling coming from a world-wide church supposedly having over a billion adherents.
