To help him adjust to D.C., Obama has lifted an entire network of unassuming friends and in-laws from the South Side into the capital's stratosphere

Well... doesn't really sound like a bad thing to me. Helps keep him grounded to still have real human interaction, rather than the oftentimes cold and plastic political 'friendships'.

When deprived of that, politicians tend to form close friendships with another politician based on the flimsiest grounds. Both have political agenda first and foremost. And dramaz will be born. Petty differences seep to the political arena, and before you know it, a President is vetoing a bill from a Senator, simply because he hates the man and not because he disagrees with the bill.

From Texas Bush brought Rove, Ashcroft, Gonzalez, and their detestable ilk. Marian sounds like a much nicer alternative.

I actually like the multi-generational family. I grew up with my grandparents nearby ...one set right across the hall in the apt building my parents owned. And I think it is good for kids ...and the parents....to have the respite of the grandparents looking after the kids, too. The parents get some time "off" from the kids....and the kids get some time away from the strictness that the parents must maintain.....grandma can spoil a kid a bit, bend the rules, and it doesnt confuse the kid as to what the rules are....the kid knows that grandma is bending the rules.

Sounds like a well rounded family circle for the kids and for Obama and his wife. I'm glad he'll have the normalcy of such a family. Without his inlaws he's quite alone other than distant relatives. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I like what MunchingZombie said !!! because his choice of company sure beats them damn neocons of bush's, i'm sure their influence on obama will be a lot lot different than the likes of Gonzo going to a hospital bed to influence his predecessor to break with his conscience to break a law at bush's request. I'm so glad those idiots are gone !!!!
