    Miracle of HIV Medications

Today's HIV medicines—vastly superior than those of the past and proven to be safe, save lives, and prevent serious illness and new infections—are a modern miracle. Well-tolerated pill-a-day regimens reverse advanced AIDS and once-fatal immunosuppression. Death rates are declining across the world, including in some of the most highly affected, low-income nations. Adherence to medications no longer requires stopwatch-level perfection: Viral suppression with 85% adherence to nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-based treatments appears to be similar to 95% adherence.[1] Normal life expectancy is possible with access to HIV testing, care, and treatment.[2]

The recently published results of the 35-country randomized START clinical trial definitively end the debate about the power of antiretroviral medications.

Early HIV treatment not only prevents death and disease, it prevents new infection. In the final analysis of the HPTN 052 study, presented at this summer's International AIDS Society 2015 conference, among 1700 serodiscordant couples, sustained reduction in HIV prevention was observed, with no linked cases of HIV transmission identified when the HIV-infected partner had an undetectable viral load.[5,6]

So the science about the benefits of ART in controlled randomized studies is definitive. Is more research needed before implementation of global ART? I think not. Lives are at risk, especially in forgotten places and among easily forgotten people.

We don't need a cure for HIV. We have all the tools we need to end the epidemic. If we tested everyone who is sexually active, put everyone positive on treatment and put all the negative people who didn't/wouldn't use condoms 100% of the time on PrEP HIV would end.
    We can end the epidemic.

Condoms alone hasn't worked in the last 30 years. What makes anyone think it is the sole answer now?

There's probably cures for things sitting out there but bureaucracy and other misc crap is preventing things from becoming reality for the world.

It is still considered a gay and minority disease. Many doctors aren't even trained on it. When I asked my physician and nurse about Prep, they had never heard of it. HIV is not even a standard test for a physical. Until it hits straight white men and straight white women in larger amounts, it will be a disease that requires the patient to opt in.

That's because people don't always use condoms- or did you catch it while wearing a condom?

Do some of us have a built in amunity?

One started working in my city's largest bathhouse in 1980. Being 20, and a good stocky build one was popular and had lots of fun. This was a time many unknowing became infected, along with those in the 70's. I will never forget how Australia turned upside down when the news broke, and the Gay Plague Era began; Albeit those of us in the know, knew something was going down in America.

I also had a sexual relationship spanning a few years with a guy who failed to be truthful about his status, and who also promoted barbacking; he has since passed.

My point to this is, I am now 50+ and still Hiv-. Sure after loosing so many mates in the 80's and 90's, one can not but help think, how can that possible be? But.....it is what it is.

For me now, HIV and AIDS is apart of my past, and not apart of my reality today.

So is it possiable, that some of us have a built in amunity?

USING Condoms has worked for the last 30 years. It's not using them that spreads HIV

Are you somehow going to shame everyone into using them? Force them too? Blame them when they get HIV when not using a condom and say "serves you right?" Because men bareback. We now have more effective ways of stopping the spread of HIV even for men who can't/won't use condoms. So stop shaming others sexual choices!!
And condoms are NOT always effective. Real world use shows they're about 70% effective at preventing HIV. Compare to PrEP with an effectiveness of 96-100%.

Shut the fuck up. I'm tired of your ass always accusing of people "Shaming" others because they would prefer a world with fucking condoms in it. I think you internally feel like you need to play this sad pathetic excuse for a victim like "whoa is me, I don't use condoms, and none of you can't judge me" however when someone says they want to use condoms you start saying some bullshit out of your raw ass. Bitch please, condoms has helped men over the last couple of decades, and yes it's because stupid people like tim that decided to bareback, knowing far well the consequences of it, and yet after contracting the HIV virus you think he would be more self aware of his mistakes and educate others on safe sex practice. Now that this Prep is out in the market that is an excuse to shame others who prefer to use condoms as Their means of protection? No bitch it doesn't work like that. If you are going to shame others on using condoms, I have every fucking right to shame you for sticking random raw dicks up your ass.

    Read ACON! #ONE IS CONDOMS!!!!!
You say "condoms has helped men over the last couple of decades"

Yes it has. I was handing out condoms before you were born. In the 80s that was the only protection we had. It was a 70-80% effectiveness, as we know now. From the early 80s-late 90s,I had two BFs who were negative, no infections. We were very safe. It was all oral, masturbation, JO, or friction/rubbing.

Stupid? My ex was a Navy Dentist. The Navy was years ahead in testing and experimental drugs. Being a dentist he had access to a lot of early studies. My best friend was the Head Nurse at Mass General. They were leaders in AIDS research.

Even in the midst of the AIDS crisis, people still had condomless sex. As they do now. They did before. They always will.

    This was 2 years ago:
"The NIH researchers are working from a mathematical model suggesting that treating all persons infected with HIV with aggressive antiretroviral therapies has the potential to vastly reduce global disease rates—to one infection per 1,000 people by 2016. The model, says Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is based on the observation that, "When you follow couples—one who's infected, the other who's not—the probability of infection diminishes when the viral load is very low," as when drugs have been administered. So, the study intends to get infected individuals' viral loads down to levels where they cannot infect their sexual partners even in the absence of a condom. "The philosophy," Fauci says, "is if you test everybody, and treat everybody who has HIV, you could use treatment as prevention."

DC HIV rates are down 40%. https://www.metroweekly.com/2015/07/report-dcs-hiv-status-still-a-generalized-epidemic/
