Hi y'all, I will be traveling to Tampa, Florida for Halloween this year. I have always wanted to visit a bath house which I am planning to do on this trip. This will be my first time attending a bath house, with that being said, I was wondering what some of y'all experience were like? Things that I should be aware of before attending? Lastly, just some pros and cons? Thanks for y'all insight.

There are a few things about bathhouses:

    * No, they're not filled with the ripped actors who were paid to appear in the website photographs of their spaces, although there can be some nice looking men there.

    * Most have some weird smells -- musty, lots of bleach, B.O. if somebody opts not to shower, etc. It's not a spa.

    * There are usually a few guys who just don't understand that no means no, so you may have to more aggressively express your lack of interest.

    * You don't have to play, sometimes it's fun to just watch. I will go because I like to be naked and see other men w/o clothes.

If you ask me, I suggest you do not go and spend your vacation time doing something more sanitary, safe, and exciting. Like visiting a club or finding out if any LGBT centers in Florida are throwing parties which I'm sure that they are.

But if you insist, don't say I didn't warn you, and I'll give you the 411.

1.Bathhouses are not fun or happy places to be. You are there to have sex and nothing more, nothing less. They sometimes stink, have annoying loud dance music playing, rude staff, and many have a very expensive first time member fee, and you have to pay extra for a room to have sex in. It's free to hang out in the common areas, but if you want action, you have to pay for the room, as the clientele you'll meet up with, wont. Which leads me to number two.

2.90% of the patrons are down low and discreet guys and trolls who have STI's and possibly more scarier things than that. The remaining 10% are guys like you and me who don't mean any harm, are clean, and want to experiment at the baths. The thing is, you might get lucky and find someone nice in that 10 percent, but the statistics don't lie. You are more than often going to get a troll or a guy you are going to regret messing with. So please wear protection, and barebacking is usually banned in bathhouses anyways.

3.As a fellow black gay, the guys in top demand at the baths in Florida, would probably be fem asians, and masc latinos. The two times I been to bathhouses here in the LA area, I never saw any other black guys, and the White guys who were regulars, quickly found their partner and went into a room. Don't be surprised if you walk away in fear of wasting your time, money, being rejected and neglected, and getting the attention from someone you don't want. which leads me to four.

4.You will see, be hit on, and followed by at least one troll. Stay away from these guys, as they are paying customers, but you don't want to mess with them. These guys are more than likely unclean and unkempt, will try to steal your belongings and follow you outside if you're not careful, and could hurt you in a non sexual way by asking you to go into a private room with them, which then something terrible could happen. This happens a lot of times so beware.

5.There is nothing wrong with just hanging in the common rooms or lounges, or using this visit as a conversation piece or learning experience. I mean it's your money. Just use common sense and please protect yourself, make sure a condom is being used.

    Take care. icon_smile.gif

My main comment would be it's very hit and miss. If it's a 'nice' one (i.e. good facilities, clean etc) it can be very enjoyable to just chill out and enjoy the facilities in an all-male environment. I quite like the relaxed yet sexual atmosphere.

I say hit and miss because if you are going there intending to have some form of sex, you may find there is no one there you would remotely be attracted to, so don't be too disappointed if that's the case.

Some guys can be quite sexually aggressive in these environments, you need to have the confidence to tell them if you're not interested and make it clear for them to leave you alone.

Condoms and lube should be available quite freely so make sure you play safe if it gets to that.

Many places have glory holes, orgy rooms/dark rooms, slings etc so if you're into some kinky shit then you will find that there.

Pros - you can chill out, and if you're lucky find a hot guy to have some fun with. I don't know how many times I've been to one in my life but I would say the majority of times I didn't do anything with anyone else, although I would sometimes jack off in one of the porn rooms and get turned on by guys watching me (again, make sure no one touches you without your consent and if they do make it clear it's not cool). Times I did have some form of sex with someone (from handjobs to full sex) was always in a private booth but you can have it publicly if you like. Actually one time was in a private booth that had a glass block wall so there was some visibility which was quite hot.

Cons - you might not find anyone you find attractive, the place may be dirty or not well-maintained, you might find guys being pushy with you, you might freak out a bit in such a heavily sexualised environment - just go with an open mind and see if you enjoy it.

Lastly, people say that it's dirty - depends where you go, if you go to a nice one there's no reason it's any different hygiene-wise than a gym or pool. People say that it's somehow gross to hook up at a bath house/sauna yet think nothing of hooking up at someone's house/their house - you could say that's hypocritical, no real difference and at least there you're in a somewhat safe, public environment!

People also say no hot guys go - well as I said, it's hit and miss but when I did have sex with someone believe me I wouldn't have if I didn't find them hot - handsome guys with great bodies and big dicks can be found!

Wait, there are still bathhouses? Is there not a safer way for you to get HIV and a variety of STI's?
Healthy people don't go to places designed for unhealthy and disgusting closet cases to get off. You should spend more time wondering what draws you to a nest of depravity and sexually transmitted diseases rather than wonder if your towel might fall off in front of an elderly man with a viagra addiction.
    Seek therapy.

    The typical judgemental responses begin...

It must be incredibly boring up on the cloud of moral superiority, as everyone up there can't wait to jump on and trash other people who don't live their lives exactly as they think they should. You'd think there was something better for them to do icon_rolleyes.gif

Someone I know who recently went to one told me that he felt all the young/hot guys had long ago moved on to Grindr, etc. This left only the most desperate/unselective at the bath houses. He seemed really disappointed in it.

I like the other advice that was given. Let us know how it goes icon_smile.gif

Back in the day, the young/hot guys used to wait until some extreme hour when all the trolls had gone home before they showed up. Like 2 am or something. And there were some hours that were supposed to be "under 30 only." I don't know what they do now, of course, because they wouldn't tell me icon_sad.gif

Who knows what to expect in Tampa. You might just show up at 2 am and see what it's like.

"Saunas" are still popular in many big European cities, and apparently much nicer than the ones left in the US. I would not hold out great hopes for a great experience in one in Florida.

I have heard some horror stories of diseases, weird skin infections caught in steam rooms or saunas. That is certainly something that would have me not wanting to attend one.

But, the first I tried was Steamworks in Berkeley. I was treated like a porn star there and fucked like one. Most of my adult life I've been celibate, so my hitting a bathhouse was a good thing to experience. It certainly gave me a huge ego boost as many men showed interest in having fun. The place was clean and had good periodic janitorial attention going on throughout the time spent. There were a lot of sexy guys there, it was a saturday night into Sunday that I was there. Loved it. I had seen an add for the place showing guys curling weights with nothing but a towel. "I must do that" was my thought, for I'd always wanted to lift weights in near nudity. And so I did.

After Berkely, I hit one in San Diego. It was pretty ghetto. The guy checking me in looked like a meth addict, and very hammered by the effects of hard drugs. But after some time there, I found some hot young lawyer that I put on his back on a leather couch amid a crowd watching, and fucked him til he shot a big load up and over his head. He was beautiful. I pounded a few other guys, then a hottie insisted I head from there home with him, which I did. He gave me a grand tour of San Diego by night in his convertible sports car, then wanted to keep me forever, enticing me to stay extra days to go to hot tub parties featuring gay porn stars as attendees. I wanted to stay, but didn't have time to keep there.

Later, I hit Flex batthouse in Hollywood. I fucked a few gorgeous college kids on lawn furniture around the pool, with guys gathered around and enjoying the show.

Later, I hit one in Las Vegas. I will never go there again. I might potentially be tempted, if they would open up their pool to real sunshine, but it didn't have a ton of guys, and it seems condoms and lube was in low supply, or weren't available like other places.

Go do it. You have to know for yourself if you'll like the experience.

MknobW saidHi y'all, I will be traveling to Tampa, Florida for Halloween this year. I have always wanted to visit a bath house which I am planning to do on this trip. This will be my first time attending a bath house, with that being said, I was wondering what some of y'all experience were like? Things that I should be aware of before attending? Lastly, just some pros and cons? Thanks for y'all insight.

Until I settled down with a guy here in Florida, who objects to bathhouses, I would visit them. My experience was this:

Some are really posh, effectively men's spas. That would hold their own against any straight coed spa, the only real difference being naked guys everywhere or wearing towels only, and having uninhibited gay sex all around you. Those places can get a bit pricey, however.

Others are dumps. Dank, smelly, unattractive, clearly unsanitary, often with a clientele to match, fulfilling the worst stories you may hear about these places. I don't know what you'll find in Tampa. I have my own favorite here in Fort Lauderdale, part of a small chain. Their closest one to Tampa is in Orlando.

It's typical you'll have to buy a membership, plus pay a variable day pass, choosing your locker size, with possibly a private dressing room option. That's not very economical if you're only staying for a few days.

Some places do allow a day pass only, to attract tourists, and they'll waive the membership fee, but you generally still have to take a complimentary membership, even if free. That's to meet local regulations that prohibit this kind of behavior except in private clubs, and so you temporarily become a member of their private club. I've even had to sign a form saying I wasn't connected with law enforcement and not there for undercover surveillance purposes.

You'll be issued a traditional white towel, with more stacked throughout the place along with bowls of condoms in better baths, and a key for a locker or a private changing room (usually with a bed!), and then you go strip. Guys who want to use the gym, and some are rather complete, change into their gym clothes. But some do the gym naked or maybe just wearing a jock or briefs, provided they put towels on the equipment. After that you go around and play with the boys, maybe take an open gang shower first.

Some guys will be shy, especially the first-time tourists, and merely stroll around in their towel. Others are more aggressive, and will simply say they want sex with you. I've never seen anyone get physically insistent or forceful. But unless you have a fuck buddy with you, this is sex with strangers, and somebody's got to take the initiative.

Tip: this can vary, but in better places that have private "dressing" rooms with beds, along with locker options, you may receive your key on a wrist or ankle band, since you'll have no pockets.

These bands can be color coded. It's a lot like the old hanky code. Savvy guys look for the band indicating a private room.

The room guys usually are considered more desirable for cruising by those seeking anal in private. But if your taste runs to BJs or handjobs only, you can do those in the steam room or sauna, or a poolside recliner, so save your money on a room and rent a less expensive locker.

Second tip: some guys wank or get a handjob in the hot tub. For that reason I avoid it, just my personal preference. I've never seen anyone doing that action in the swimming pool, but I'm sure they can. In steam room or sauna I always sit on a towel, and wear flip-flops everywhere that I bring from home.

    Have safe fun!

Like the pal who took me the first time told me: 'It's your club too. You can do what you want.' That includes nothing at all but relaxing.

All of the above are very good observations. You can explore, and still stay safe and healthy.

    My rules:
    > No anal
    > Don't expect anything.
    > Stay out in the open
    > Be as firm as needed with "No"
    > Relax and enjoy the nude fellowship: showers, sauna, hot tub, & pool

Be sure to let us know how it goes.

I always saw bathhouses, spas, and sex clubs of the kind as places to cruise for sex.

I always stopped short of thinking, 'wow, I paid so many dollars at the entrance, so I am going to have some awesome, hot sex with the porn star-like looking dudes'. If you leave that entitlement at the door, you'll be better off there.

With some luck, you'll choose a reasonably clean, well-kept place that attracts local guys and the tourists/visitors alike.

If you keep your cool, do not impose any pressure upon yourself to score because you are there and because you paid a possibly expensive entrance fee, the chances are that you may hook up with someone you find attractive. It will always be a hit and miss situation which is inherent to cruising for sex.

Going to the bath house does not require that you change your attitude, lower your standards, and have sex with anyone who signals interest in messing around with you. You are still in charge, it is your life and it is your body, so you are calling the shots.

You seem way too young to need to go to a place like that lol
