Screaming conservative parents ignite chaos at Omaha meeting on optional sex-ed class

"Irwin said an atheist was physically assaulted and a group of LGBT young people were threatened and verbally attacked."

“A group of young LGBTQ people were threatened with violence by a mother and her son for being there, for not apologizing for their sexuality, and for supporting education that was respectful of their identities,” Irwin wrote. “They were called evil, sinful, and told they were going to hell. The advisor that brought them, who is also queer identified, was told that she was teaching them how to be gay and that she should be ashamed of herself. When the advisor asked that the person be respectful, that’s when the threats of violence began. She ushered her groups out to make sure they stayed safe.”

No, they're called parents, who have just as much a right to air their views as we - or any other "queer identified" (who writes this stuff?) - do, however wrong they may be. As for "igniting anything," at least they didn't go out and torch the town, a la Ferguson. (Still waiting for the prosecutions against those who incited to riot and commit arson, BTW.) Irwin's after-the-fact conclusory allegations of "threats and violence" lack any concrete facts to support them. OTOH, it can be argued that mocking a mom as "Puritymom," apart from eventually being found inaccurate, is just as abusive as name-calling against gays. Sorry, this is just another self-righteous blast from the gay left in its ongoing effort to instill groupthink among us and society at large. But, this "queer identified" man isn't buying any of it.

we don't have mental institutions anymore, we shut them down and built prisons instead - hundreds and hundreds of prisons

We should do our best then to keep them from being elected in positions of power.

I have enough experience with such people to know that things may have gone even far worse than they were presented in the article, let alone implying that the person doing the article exaggerated the event beyond proportion. While I agree on opinions and views, I think this went beyond sharing views and opinions.

And an opinion is not worth much if it's for the benefit of the community. Sexual education, even optional, is a must-have in a modern educational system.

Now you are generalizing. Not all republicans are that way. A accurate description of this lunatic bitch would be a narrow minded bible thumping screwball.

Doesn't that describe a vast number of republicans?

A large percentage of them yes but all of them no. I tend to vote for republicans on the county and local level. On the state level it is more murky although the New York GOP is somewhat more tolerant and progressive that GOP organizations in other states. I am well aware of the Missouri GOP being under the thumb of the religious right so that slams the door in your face unfortunately. The federal level GOP is largely a lost cause. But we the people allowed that to happen.

No they were not "parents" they were not even from the school. They were organized by religious and conservative groups (1000 attendees vs the 150 in April).
They were told lies (Bernie Garcia said he was told they were going to demonstrate masturbation!)

Ferguson has ZERO to do with this.

Through intimidation and physical violence the conservatives were pushing their religious will.

If you think labeling someone "Purity Mom" is EQUAL to physical harm you are mistaken.

I am not a parent, so I have not had discussions with youth and teenagers about their sexuality, but I follow the examples and advice my parents gave to me as I matured, so I know how to behave responsibly. I suspect that some of the parents in this OPS meeting never had a frank discussion with their parents as they were growing up, and nor have they had an open and honest discussion with their kids about sex. Hence, the hysteria and ignorance which was prevalent during this meeting.

Screaming and shouting, clinging to their delusions and cognitive dissonance, as they know their worldview is losing its ridiculous grip over society and power institutions. Also, screaming as they have no arguments, only anger.

Why because it doesn't agree with your blind, ultra leftist idiocyicon_question.gif You are way too liberal for your own good. What MGINSD said is 100% factually correct. Everyone is rightfully entitled to their opinions even if they are wrong.

I don't understand though why the gay students felt they needed their own separate Sex Ed class. I am not condoning the woman's behavior, but I sort of get the sense that these gays were of the "Act up" variety that just like to make trouble and have the obnoxious in your face approach.

"Everyone is rightfully entitled to their opinions even if they are wrong. "

Yes, if they are an *opinion*.

"I think Star Wars is too simplistic in its plot development" is an opinion.

"I don't like broccoli" is an opinion

"I think the BeeGees were the greatest group ever" is an opinion.

"You are sick, evil person who will be burning in hell for all eternity and we will not permit you to contaminate our pure, innocent, not in any was possibly gay children with your filth and you should just kill yourself"......Is *NOT* an opinion. That's not prefixed with "I think" - because they are not stating it as an opinion, but as a *FACT* they they are *sure* of because...well...reasons, and they are insulting and verbally assaulting someone, and making claims that are not only false but unverifiable.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion...they are also entitled to keep their big mouth shut and keep it to *themselves*. When you try to *impose* your opinion on someone else...it's not just an opinion anymore...or you'd be willing to accept the *other* person's opinion, right? It's just an opinion, after all.
