Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I had no idea who he was. I had to google his name.

You're not alone; I never heard of him either, but his self-promotion was enough to dissuade me from googling him, or learning any more about him. And, I can speak for myself, TYVM!

He shouldn't. Sam SMith has been out since he came to the fore in music, but he has not released one music video featuring gay men. The only one where lesbians even featured slightly was in his video Latch which was in collaboration wth another artist. All of his other videos have featured exclusively heterosexual couples, and he only sings love ballads. If straight people have more of guts concerning the representation of LGBT people in the music industry, he should not be the spokesperson of LGBT people.

Other than that his statement was just presumptuous

How can one be a spokesperson for an entire community that can barely agree on anything?

    Very presumptuous.

I don't think i've ever witnessed a gay spokesperson who wasn't bias and boring in their approach to different orientations. I think Miley Cyrus is a better spokesperson for at least knowing wtf a pan sexual is. I'm definitely prejudging, but I would assume his stance to be that gay people are equal and we should all accept everyone even if we don't understand them, yay, that's how things change. No, it's not how things change. Hopefully he proves me wrong I guess.

I wasn't aware the position was advertising.

What happened to the last guy?

I'm good with not having either of them as spoke people.

He's a young white R&B singer from England in his 20s.

I'm a young african american in my 20s so it makes sense for me to know him I guess.

Stay with me is his only good song really.

That because we are not and never have been one community, but many. Even the creation of the American alphabet soup (GLBTIBAH..............) has not achieved making us one.

I had no idea who he was until I saw this video. I know the song but didn't know who sang it. Too bad he can't lip sync his own music though!
