Interesting article. What is presented makes sense, logically. Of course, there is not enough information presented to evaluate the veracity of the investigators' conclusions. I have long assumed that conservatives lack empathy for others, some to the point of being sociopaths, but I see no mention of this in the article. Perhaps it was not studied by these investigators.

From the article: When important choices are being made based on gut instinct rather than logical reasoning, it is everyone’s responsibility to point this out so that it doesn’t result in catastrophe.

I would like to think that reason would drive all important decisions, but it is plainly evident that this is rarely the case, especially in the political process.

Yes, you're so right. Perhaps we should all be declared mentally ill and locked up in gulags. After all, the Soviets did it, so it must be all right, no? icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe also a penchant for hyperbole and susceptibility to conspiracy theories, no?

Us southpaws have anxiety and fear as well! Just about any signs of repression or regression get our Spidey Senses tingling.

Not speaking for everybody, but even fear! I fear the resistance to ebbing HICC, and the pursuit and furtherance of global unrest, satisfying many religious humans' objectives to witness whatever prophecy they call "Armageddon" during their lifetimes.

I think once you suck the end-times-religious and the "I Got Mine, Screw You" angles from the (many, not all) righties, you're left with far more healthy and constructive doses of skepticism on matters of policy.

    Seriously?

"Watch out, they'll reduce taxes on the rich and make you super poor"

"Watch out, they'll put you in prison because your black and not let you vote"

"Watch out, if they win, you won't get to choose whether or not you can kill your unborn child"

"Watch out, if they win, the government won't sanction marriage at all, and gays will be really sad"

"Watch out, if they win, they'll cut spending on really, really important things that we can't live without."

"Watch out, they don't believe that investing 50% of our economy to try and affect the Earth's climate is a good idea. We'll all die of global warming. . . err, climate change!. . . err, mega storms!"

If your suggestion is that socialists do not run on fear you are as ignorant and blind as the conservatives you hate without listening to.
