Why is every Aussie so discouraging at the thought of the Sydney Mardi Gras? I always get feedback like "It was better in the '90s" or "Go to Thailand instead!"

Never been and probably never will. Rather chillax on the beach with a slab and some friends.

I might head to a few of events...but am not all that excited about the parade/party.

That said, it is my personal goal to join the marching boys next year (after round two of chest surgery has healed + lots more pec flys completed) - to celebrate the end of the surgical bit of my transition...any excuse to wear short shorts really..

I am looking forward to the mardi gras film festival though and Trough faggot party which is on a few days before the parade/party and should be good fun.

I'm going! Bringing my american bf with me; it's 5 years since we met - on the dance floor, RHI, at Mardi Gras '04.

Can't wait...trying to decide on outfits already

I'll be at the authentic MG in New Orleans

I went last year, and found it to be a major disappointment. I had seen videos and read how wonderful it was. Obviously these media releases were just that - tourism generators. New York and Toronto Pride is about 1000 x nicer, better planned - more organized.

I suggest going to AUS at another time when SYD is not so out of control.

I make the pilgrimage to Sydney for Mardi Gras every year. It has had its up and downs, but I always enjoy it.

I have never been any similar event anywhere else in the world and so have nothing to compare it to.

I will be going to the Toybox party instead of the after party this year as I’m over the big parties… for the time being.
