Who "big beefy guys" prefer

To make it clear, I like my size at 5 ft. 6 in and about 150 lbs., and at age 47 I'm not going to grow any more (at least not in heigth). But I'm curious, do big, beefy, tall guys always prefer guys similar to them in bulk and size, or is that too much of a generalization?

It's way too much of a generalization. I'm not gym built, but still a pretty big muscular guy. And there is something about a lean trim guy that totally gets me going! icon_wink.gif

    I like the whole package:
    1. Smarts.
    2. Self-confidence / self-esteem
    3. Conversant.
    4. Well read / literate.
    5. Well groomed.
    6. Smiles.
    7. Fit to built. 2.2# per inch, or more, lean.

Height / weight really isn't a factor. I'll take a smiling, articulate, fit guy on the slim side over really built, and conflicted any day.

I like men who reak (figuratively) masculinity. I like being a guy, and for appreciating a guy I like guys guys. When I feel like being with a woman, I like how they are too. That's the joy of being bi.

    What I don't like:
    1. "discreet", "not out", and so on...low esteem, self-loathing, low-confidence, religiously-conflicted, resentful, ________(insert baggage type here).
    2. Adoration. It's a major turnoff. I know what I have. I don't need to be reminded constantly.
    3. Femmy.
    4. Whiney.
    5. False belief systems (pick your religion).
    6. Tardy
    7. Badly groomed.
    8. No standards / all-accepting
    9. Tobacco users.
    10. Fatsos

I've never understood the idea of having just one physical type, although I do admit to having a weakness for brown eyes. I tend to like guys with a very sarcastic sense of humor.

Everyone's different in what they like about other men. I like all sorts of guys though I'm not usually attracted to guys under 5ft7.

What I've noticed is that guys mostly gravitate to men who look like they do
...but there is an exception to every rule

There have been a few threads on whether or not people pick partners who are similar or different. The only generalization I think they came to was that you can't extrapolate from the general to the specific. That is, there may be an overall pattern, but there are tons of exceptions.

I do believe that there's a bell-curve to it, though, and that in the main, big guys match up with big guys, smaller guys with smaller guys, athletes with athletes, etc. etc. etc. - perhaps because they understand each other a bit better.

But as soon as I say that, I'm mindful of all the many, many exceptions I've known -- the big beefy blond who only likes slender latinos, the giant bodybuilder who has a thing for extremely delicate asians, the Pennsylvania Dutch guy who has a thing for huge black bodybuilders, and a couple of clients of mine who've been together for years - one of whom is 5'2" and the other is 6'7". YOU figure out how that one works....my neck hurts just thinking about it.

Thanks guys for your thoughtful responses...I for one am attracted to the "whole package" of personality, etc., but I have been surprised at the number of people who have a narrowly defined list of characteristics...to each his own though...

Well, similar can be a lot of things. I went on a date with a guy who was about 5'2 (I'm 6'3). I can't lie; it was a bit awkward. That being said, it's not like I would not be interested in it. Just something that isn't my preference.

I always seem to notice "big, beefy, tall guys" preferring guys similar to them in bulk and size. Rarely will I see a tall dude with a shorter guy, even if a shorter guy is built and muscular. I think there's some slight narcissism involved on their part, especially if they happen to resemble one another.

I'm with Chucky on the "whole package" concept.

However, the guys that catch my eye first are usually shorter and slimmer than myself (dark brown hair, and brown/green eyes are a plus).

i consider myself a bigger guy, but not sure if i qualify for what you consider a 'big beefy guy'

anyway, I really dig guys your size. I look for a fit, smaller build guy. Then check out if he's got the 'whole package' as others have described.

In the end though, each person is gonna have his own preference.

and now you're 2 cents richer

I go for a total package, and there's usually a certain "something" a bit indefinable that makes a guy attractive to me. He mightn't have the most awesome body, or the most photogenic face or whatever, but there's just something about him.

    my $0.02

it totally depends on the guy. the love of my life was 6-1 240lbs 50 inch chest and 33 inch waist. the last guy i really dated was 5-6 150lbs, with more natural talent than you could shake a stick at!! both great guys with great souls and both caught my attention big time.

I love guys my own size.

    BUT...

I also love what I call "squirmy" guys -- slim, solid, about 5'9" and when you hold them down they can't get away no matter how much they squirm.

    not that they want to.

LOL - makes me think of a time I was dating a hockey player and now, I don't consider myself weak or small or anything like that, but we were across his bed, him on top (we were clothed) and he was trying to flirt and get me to stay and had my wrists in his hands over my head, then all of the sudden he lifts me up and repositions me so that we're now lying the right way in bed. TOTALLY caught me off guard, I mean, I think the last time anyone PICKED ME UP - literally, I was 4 years old! I was so taken aback - the man picked ME up!

I think the question is as much one of expectation as anything.

Short guys don't hit on tall guys so tall guys aren't seen with short guys so short guys don't hit on tall guys...

Add on the wierd concepts that you can't bottom for someone shorter than you, that short="the woman", that tall men are always aggressive tops, etc... and you end up with a lot of people who can't find dates.

My theory is that big tall guys like to date each other, since clothing is harder to find in tall sizes they can share a wardrobe.

in my experience... big beefy guys/muscle bears/buffed up athletes tend to hit on me more than smaller guys.

BUT i think it has more to do with the tattoos and the fact that i can weild a bullwhip better than Indy Jones, Michelle Pfifer, and Halley Berry combined icon_twisted.gif

I like lean/skinny guys but they also prefer their own kind.

It's really kind of weird the way we classify ourselves according to body type: gym bunnies, circuit boys, bears, muscle bears, twinks, etc.

Well from looking at my hotlist.

I like guys around my height, really nothing less than 5'10. And bodies that I myself am striving for. So beefy and muscular.

Not attracted to slim or small guys in the least.
