I'm not surprised at all, given their numerous attempts to vaporise anything to do with the Confederacy. Their tactics are straight out of Alinsky and Orwell: erase the history you don't like and create your own "narrative" instead. Trouble is, their quest for perfection leads them only one way: ever leftward. Would they seek to do the same for MLK and Teddy Kennedy, given their records of plagiarism and womanizing? Didn't think so.

Wow, that's rich. Removing an asshole's name from a building is the same as erasing history? Did you even read Orwell?

And what of this Confederacy do you speak? You mean the one that seceded to keep their black slaves? Or the assholes who hung flags to assert their racism? Please, do explain why the leftward ones are the villains in your story.

I think his name should remain there as a reminder, lest we forget.

the civil war was never about slavery. The ugly truth is that it was economics. Lincoln was in favor of all states retaining their slaves if the union was maintained. Slavery being abolished was a convenient tactic very late in the war and one that was not ratified by congress.

More Southern racist revisionism. The majority of the secession documents written by Southern State to justify their leaving the Union very prominently state their action is to preserve slavery. And to maintain the superiority of the White Race over the inferior Negroes, whose natural condition is one of subserviance and slavery.

Do read your history before you speak next time, OK? Rather than spout neo-Southern racist propaganda and disinformation.

You could have bolstered your position by pointing out the compromise that required that for every slave state admitted to the Union there must be one free state. A google search on "Missouri compromise" will return more information.

It is interesting that the slave states and the states that enacted Jim Crow laws and customs were in the part of the country which is often referred to as the "Bible belt". Obviously many Christians did not believe that the laws "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and "Do unto others as thou would have others do unto thee" did not apply to them. That's one of the reasons I'm more concerned with how people treat each other than with what they say they believe.

O my, we're going here again.

Of course there were several factors which led to the Civil War. But absent slavery, one would be very hard pressed to argue that the war would have happened.

I doubt we would have went to war over something as prosaic as a tariff.

I suppose that if you lived in Germany you would oppose removing Hitler's name from a national building. After all, he was part of history.
