Yeah I guess I do like you in a way, I don't know how that happened, but since I have also seen you in my dream, that tells something, therei s no need to deny that

Sheesh...now that you both have kissed and made up....can we get back to the topic?

A palem-reader/card-reader/psychic/soothsayer told me many years ago that I had almost died 3 times.

    First; nearly by impalement:
I took this to be the time my ATV went off the road avoiding a drunken rider and the large limb of a tree pierced my coat, shirt and thermal shirt, just grazing the skin over my right kidney.

    2nd; nearly by disease:
I took this to mean when an infant and nearly died from a temp of 103, but mom got into the tub with me and all the ice the neighbors could spare.

3rd; nearly by a blow to the head:
I took this to be the time a large circular saw (industrial size, not that 7-1/4" piece of crap you have in your shop) fell from scaffolding and cracked my hard hat.

Since then, I survived a fall from the 2nd story of a roof with no broken bones and only a major sprain.

I guess a few times, due to horrendous accidents.

All due to very serious head trauma. That gave me retrograde amnesia. So that my previous memory is doing something else, and then suddenly everything goes black. Not of the accident itself, it's just like a black curtain descends while I'm doing something quite unrelated.

And I have no more memory, nothing but black. No dreams, no awareness, nothing.

It's how I imagine death will be. Since I don't believe in some kind of spiritual afterlife, where we keep thinking after our bodies stop living.

But then I woke up. Not knowing where I was, or what had happened to me. My last memory not of the accident. This happened several times.

And I was told afterwards I almost didn't make it. But I didn't know that. I didn't know anything, it was all blackness, nothingness. Until you've been there you can't comprehend it.

1.My mom told me that we were caught in a shootout when I was a toddler. Apparently I slid down the slide at the right time to avoid being shot.

    2. A few years older, I slept on the bottom of a wooden bunk bed that was breaking. I generally slept on the left side of the bed but one night I instinctively moved towards the right and was spared when the top bunk collapsed would've crushed me.

    3. Last year, my boyfriend dragged me to breakneck ridge for a hiking trip in march. The trail was full of snow and ice and we were unprepared for that terrain. He then got us lost and a two hour hike turned into a 7 hour hike. I managed to get us out of the park before nightfall which would have left us stranded since moving would've been suicidal by then.

    Three times:

--Drove to the top of Saddleback in Orange County, California, one wintry morning. Parked near the edge of the summit, and was enjoying the view over the precipice . . . when I realized that my truck was slowly sliding on the ground-ice towards the cliff-like edge. Nothing I could do, because it wasn't that the truck's wheels were turning: The braked wheels were sliding. At the brink, I opened the door and prepared to jump out free of the truck (though, in truth, jumping out would probably have thrown me over the edge too). At the critical moment, the truck's slide was stopped by a pebble or something, and I was able to--very gingerly at first--reverse and get the hell out of there.

--Nearly bled to death from internal bleeding. No cause, an intestine with an inborn weak spot just decided to rip one day. Just before emergency surgery, the nurse said, "Do you have any last words you'd like me to pass on?" Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence, nurse.

--Was diagnosed with chronic leukemia about nine years ago. So, after I spend eight years expecting to be dead soon, last year my doctor says, "Eh, it's clear that your body knows how to whup leukemia. You don't need to worry about it any more. I'm going to have to find some other way to kill you" (or words to that effect).

OK, so I've cheated death three times. Cool!

Sounds like you are talking about blackouts.

Correct. But I was also on life support, in a coma for a period. Twice. So I dunno, we can bandy terms. I wasn't actually "there" to witness it, I was told about it afterwards.

I was given Catholic last rites on the first occasion, after a bicycle accident at age 12, so I don't know what else you want. During my motorcycle accident at age 19 I was out for about 10 hours with breathing tubes, and didn't get last rights.

When I awoke I first saw my buddy at my bedside, who had slammed into me with his own motorcycle and caused the accident. He was white as a sheet, but uninjured. He was so apologetic, but I couldn't blame him. And then I passed out again for most of the day.

We remained buddies, and in retrospect I know I loved him. But in the 1960s it was difficult to express that. Then we both joined the Army. Keeping in touch for a while, although assigned far away from each other, and then... nothing. I tried over the years to locate him online, but I couldn't find him. I'd still love to contact him.

Ah, well. I found the better solution for recurring "blackouts" (which I now have due to epilepsy, a likely consequence of those head traumas), is to live with a guy who knows about it, and yet still loves me, and who'll take care of me. And who knows I'll take care of him in turn. A nice balance. icon_biggrin.gif

At 4 years old, 1968, in the back of my fathers '59 station wagon with road salt holes in the rotted floor board.

I was found by my mom who was in the front seat, slumped over on the floor of the backseat, foaming at the mouth, unconscious. I guess child seats were not available or required in 1968.

I had carbon monoxide poisoning, was in the hospital for 3 months. I would have died if it weren't for my mom yelling at my dad to take me to hospital, which he refuse to do. When we got home that day, my mom herself drove me to the hospital, I guess on mothers instinct, which was correct.

They thought I might have a learning disability after this but turns out I had a growth hormone problem. The effects of carbon monoxide affected my pituitary gland during the stages of regular puberty. I barely made puberty, late and all but the last stages, muscle development, I didn't make.

Every winter in the Midwest and even out here in SoCal, I hear horror stories of entire families dying in their sleep from house hold carbon monoxide poisoning. Its nothing to mess around with. I survived for a reason I guess.

Pretty much all my near death experiences happened from riding a motorcycle. Two times in particular stand out.

I was going 90mph and a deer ran out in front of me like to the point the deer was under the front of my bike. I probably missed it by less than an inch or so. I started crying because it was scary.

Second time I was riding with a bunch of guys I know and we were cruising on a highway with no one on it and we were going like 120mph so I figured I might as well try to top the bike out while im here so got up to 165mph and one of the guys didn't know I was comming up in the slow lane/ didn't look when he moved over and I had to slam on my brakes/ lean off the side of my bike to try and get over to avoid hitting him.

One other time when I was like 15-16 I drank 2/3 of a bottle of bacardi 151 and blacked out, was non responsive friends were thinking of calling ambulance but didn't. Woke up in the morning shaking uncontrollably and my whole body hurt. I threw up green shit for like 5-6 days following that night/ chest hurt and couldn't breath that well.

Came close to being killed twice:

Sitting at a long traffic light, I was the fifth car in line. I was relaxed, and crossed my arms in front of my chest, and I leaned back against the headrest. That position kept me from seeing what was about to happen in my rear view mirror. Witnesses reported an elderly woman in a Mercury Montego ran into the back of my car at full speed without braking. The inspectors later determined she was going about 40mph & had suffered a stroke. The accident caved in the back of my car, & shoved me into all four cars ahead of me. People extricated me from my car. I was lucky to have lived through that with just minor injuries. The lady who struck me went through her windshield and died.

At age 17 I was shot through my arm and my chest by a house burglar who robbed us. He was caught and I heard he was hopped up on PCP. The doc said I was very lucky that the bullet hit a rib and changed direction slightly, instead of penetrating my heart. I've felt very fortunate to be around all these years after the doc told me that.
