Do you believe in showering everyday (skipping occasionally)?

I've bumped into more and more people here in Austin who do not and am curious what the thoughts are here. Please don't use this thread to bash people.

I shower every day, but I can understand those who shower occasionally during the week. It may be due to lack of water, or the weather. If there was shortage of water, I wouldn't mind taking occasional showers. The most thing to keep clean is your genitals for which you don't always need a shower. You can clean them with smaller amount of water.

I shower everyday. Twice a day if I have to change clothes to go somewhere. I hate putting clean clothes on a less than fresh body. In summer, maybe three times (Sat. or Sun.) depending on the heat and what I'm doing. Skip a day? Never. I can't.

I have to shower at least once a day.
I'm a cross-country coach at the school I work at and because Miami-- it's hot and I sweat a fuck ton after practice, cuz I usually end up running with the students. So, I have to shower everyday. I don't wanna smell like ass and taint.

Days that I don't run or am just loafing around and have no plans to leave the house, I may skip, but anytime I venture out of the house, be it for errands, work, etc. I always shower beforehand. Try and keep my showers at once a day though.

I don't mind if someone doesn't shower everyday, but I loathe smelling people. Like I hate when I smell people's scent...like if I can smell their hair or BO...fucking gross. I don't like smelling "musk" on men either...it just smells like sweaty nut-sac and BO to me.

I find showering refreshing anyway. I feel awake and alive after a shower. Fresh, clean, ready to go. I feel like I look better after a shower too. icon_biggrin.gif

There was a new article last month by a doctor recommending less showering. I'm sorry I don't have the link, but you can Google and find a number of recent articles on this topic.

The latest argument against daily showering, and avoiding the use of antibacterial soaps, is that they remove beneficial bacteria from your skin. Microorganisms that actually help to build your body's defenses against some serious diseases. Plus daily showering dries out the skin and ages it are among the claims.

The recommendation was to take at most a quick shower to clean the underarms and crotch. But just plain water on the rest of the body, unless the skin is visibly dirty. I dunno, sounds a bit medieval to me.

I feel totally gross if I've been sweating heavily and don't shower with soap. And I can't get into the bed sheets that unwashed way. If I've had a quiet activity day I could, and have, skipped a day. But then I'm plagued with unmanageable bed-head hair the next day, having an oily scalp even at my age, and have to wear a hat to cover it.

What I do, however, is use a moisturizing soap, that's not antibacterial. My skin has begun to dry out a bit with age. But I really don't want to stop showering.

Once a day in morning. Otherwise, I would not feel comfortable interacting with people.

Sometimes I shower again in the evening if I sweat or feel dirty from gardening or something.

When do you guys shower? In the morning or at night?

Morning, or before going out, since I'm retired and don't have a schedule. I'm about to shower now, since I've gotta run a charity raffle this Sunday at 1 PM, and it's 11:25 AM.

I'll shower at night if I've had a sweaty or dirty day. Or at the gym during the day if I use the sauna.

I don't shower every day, not only it is not necessary, bad for your skin, but also it is environmentally unfriendly + it takes effort and time

No. As stated above, it wreaks your skin, it's unhealthy to remove so much beneficial bacteria from the skin, it's absolutely horrible for the environment, not to mention costs more.

I frequently get people who tell me I smell good and ask what kind of soap I use. They're dumbfounded when I tell them I haven't showered that day and when I do I use unscented soap.

When I used to live on Guam, twice a day because it was so humid and hot. Here in California, now that it's cooling down, I'll skip a shower. I'm sitting in an air-conditioned classroom or my car, it's not like I'm sweating anyway. That being said, though, I usually shower everyday because I swim everyday and I don't want the chlorine to stay on me.

Btw, I don't sweat much and I have no BO. I haven't worn deodorant for who knows how long. A girlfriend of mine can attest to that. We were walking around in the mall yesterday and the guy I'm seeing told me my pits were sweaty, I told him, yeah, but they don't stink, wanna smell? The gf said yes and she smelled them and she was shocked that there was no smell. I can thank my filipino genes again. =)

I've read that it's good to skip every now and then. . . good for your skin and hair. I do that every once in a while, on the days I don't go out.

Everyday! I work 12 hour shifts and my job is very physical. So I sweat a lot at work. If I'm not working, I'm at the gym sweating it there too! And I'm currently in the Seattle area. The city is not going to run out of water anytime soon.

I shower at least once a day because of my job, I might very sporadically skip a sunday but it's not likely. Never had any problem in my skin or hair.

This is a thread with possibilities. Coincidental to this question are ones like, do you shower in the am or pm, do you use a washcloth (some people get really agitated at the idea of not using one), and my favorite, do you wash your legs and feet when you take a shower?

Don't forget "Do you drop the soap on purpose?"

And the rest of you are not invited to dinner. Or the hot tub. Phew!

    MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI don't shower everyday.

I put on clean clothes everyday but I shower twice a week and will use a washcloth to wash my pits and bits in between on a daily basis.

I don't get any complaints that I smell.

In fact, I've had people tell me I smell like almonds.

What's the reason behind your twice a week shower?
Do you not like taking shower or you think that twice a week is more than enough? I am curious to know.
I have a friend who takes shower twice or thrice a day. I have even told him that it's a waste of water, but he says that it's kind of habit that he can't get rid of.

I shower every day, but use the body wash mostly for the critical areas, i.e., hair, face, under arms, crotch, and feet. If I used the body wash regularly in other areas, I'd get dry and itchy skin. On rare occasions, if necessary, I may take a second shower.

When I was a kid, until I was about 13 we had only a bath tub. At that time I'd bathe only once a week but as soon as my parents build an addition onto the house which included another bathroom and a shower, I showered more frequently.

For me personal hygiene is important. I used to shower twice per day: in the morning before work, then after working out. But now that I'm back in So. Cal. with its drought, I've cut that back to only one shower per day, though I now at least wipe down in the evening before bed with a wet wash cloth.

The whole time I was deployed to Iraq there was no running water and a "shower" consisted of wetting down, soaping up, and rinsing off with only 2 liters of water. The daytime highs were usually between 125 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping as clean as possible was important not only for one's own sanity, but also good for the morale of those around you.

Once or twice a day. Monday-Friday when I am going to work, always in the morning. On weekdays that I go to the gym after work, I'll shower again at the gym after my workout. On weekends, usually once at the gym after my morning workout, and then I'm good for the day.

I shower every day but I have been using cold water for the last four months. It invigorates me, improves my mood, and saves lots of money on electricity. I do not shampoo every day (my remaining hair is pretty short).

Will you still be showering with cold water in January?
