"It's four good ol' boys sitting around drinking and things got out of control," [the Mayor] said.

Ummm... well then where did the Klan outfits come from so quickly? The white sheets are one thing, but the pointy hats? And a cross and torches? Not an entirely convincing explanation, Madame Mayor.

If they were smart, they would have said these weren't KKK sheets and hoods, but costumes from the Spanish religious parades in Seville which look just like them, including pointed hoods and crosses.....icon_rolleyes.gif

This would disturb me, except for the fact that it happened on Halloween and I don't trust the media to represent the truth without spinning it. Plus in the blurry photo it does not look like legit KKK garb. The hats are not even pointy and the sheets or whatever they're wearing looks very bunched up and thrown together.

I have seen the most horribly insensitive costumes at Halloween where people don't know the difference between "scary" and "offensive." Considering I saw people dressed as terrorists with fake bombs strapped to their chests, I see this as being no different. I highly doubt the husband of the mayor would go prancing around in a KKK uniform unless it was just a Halloween costume. Until the media can produce a story with actual facts, it sounds to me like a bunch of drunk good ole boys with a bad idea on Halloween night.

Except for the fire in front of the cross. I don't think that comes from Seville. And in any case, it has a very different, and sinister, connotation in the US.

Oh, I know that the connotation is different...I was trying to joke to find a quick diversionary excuse to questioning viewers who see the KKK today..."oh this isn't what you think...."

Well naturally I realized that wasn't your own view, but was said to further illustrate the idiocy of these people. I almost wish they HAD tried to blame it on Seville, which would have given us an even better laugh. Except they probably think Seville is only a Cadillac car model, so I doubt that excuse would have ever occurred to them. icon_rolleyes.gif
