"submitted by Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation"

    WTF? icon_eek.gificon_confused.gif

And where was "Michael Weinstein" 30 years ago with his ballot initiative? I think this man is extremely over concerned about the porn industry, the obvious trend is all actors are on PrEP.

Sounds to me, "Michael Weinstein" is either too worried about losing our actors and the industry as a whole, to the now manageable disease like cancer or his AIDS Healthcare Foundation funding could be in trouble if Hiv Aids is really halted by PrEP

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is the establishment that regularly tests all porn industry actors, gay, straight, male, female, transgender. I believe this group issues "ok to perform" cards, certifying actors have had and passed their STI tests. I guess it could be the "OSHA" of the porn industry. I am sure they carry a lot of political weight.

Tough call, if passed, this would drive the entire industry, what ever is left, out of the state of California, not just Los Angeles county.

As I have already stated in another thread, all my newer online saved porn (PornHub), is mostly all bareback now. Its now at least 50/50 condom/condom less gay porn being produced. ALL gay porn made outside the US, appears to be bareback now. The US is now in competition with other countries. I am sure bareback porn is now out selling mandatory on screen condoms 3:1.

"If Californians pass the measure then movie producers must pay for actors vaccinations, STD testing and medical exams along with requiring actors to wear condoms during their sex scenes; Violations of the new rules could incur fines up to $70,000."

California probably has more ballot initiatives and referenda than any other state the reason being that the state legislators are afraid that if they take a position they will lose votes so they have the voters make decisions instead. A voter in California may have more than 100 decisions to make when voting. Fortunately CA mails extensive study material and sample ballots to each voter. Before going to the polls it is necessary to mark up the sample ballot so that entries can quickly be copied to the actual ballot else voting would take too long.

Considering the above, it's not surprising that there would be an item about bareback sex on the ballot.

Perhaps there won't be any political ads on it. The voter information material mailed to each voter will explain the measure. In addition, it will have arguments for and against, and rebuttals to each. There will also be a cost analysis. I lived in San Diego from 1978 to 1994 so I know how they do things there.

My initial thought is that this is a health issue, best determined by medical professionals, not by public referendum and a possible "popularity contest". It's not unlike putting basic human rights up to popular vote, similar to California's infamous Proposition 8.

And please, let's not digress into discussions about PrEP and similar medical protections against HIV. When porn actors appear on the set, is it sufficient that they simply SAY that they're taking some preventive medications, before they go ahead and bareback?

Where's the evidence? Whereas we can SEE an intact condom being worn. And which protects against several other STDs, not just HIV.

I hope the vote goes against permitting barebacking in porn. And BTW, one of the producers of gay porn, drag queen Chi Chi LaRue, feels the same way as me.
