I own a 2011 Diesel Jetta Sportswagon...and it is one of the 11 million VW's worldwide that have the "emissions cheating" software. I am really unsure what to do or make of this. I have really enjoyed the car, Fun to drive, great fuel economy, comfortable, attractive....it is what I wanted....BUT, I also was sold on the big deal made of its "new technology" as a "CLEAN DIESEL", the next great wave to help clean up the environment, blah, blah, blah....I paid a premium price to get the diesel version of this car....and had to do a national search to find the car in the USA....It was in northern Minnesota, BRAND new, but wouldn't sell there, because it didn't have a built in block heater, and wasn't seen as ready to handle the intense cold of northern Minnesota.....but better suited for the "mild winters" of central Ohio (until last winter)...LOL!
So now the scandal breaks open in September and the resale value of my car has taken a 25% hit from what it was the day before this all came out. I still enjoy the car, like before, but I feel like such a fool for just accepting the "Clean Diesel", "Safer for the Environment" marketing bullshit...I feel lied to and abused...and being lead on a run-away media frenzy. My reasons for the purchase of the car, were in great part because I felt a higher level of trust in the reputation of the VW brand and the exciting proposition of a single tank of fuel getting me about 700 miles on the highway and in a more eco-friendly way....I've been lied to and betrayed on something I feel strongly about...our environment and "greenhouse gasses" and general polution.....I am not happy, but not ready to take a bath on the value of the car.
So then earlier this week, VW announces their "Good Will Package" offer to effected TDI owners....a $500 gift card and a 2nd $500 gift card for use at the VW dealer only, along with 3 years of Roadside assistance...AND on the surface, not waiving any rights to litigation.... ...not as restitution, but merely a "gesture" of good will...After additional research and contacting a few friends that are attornies.... they are recommending AGAINST taking this offer, because of language on the small print of the gift cards.......namely "clause 11" that precludes litigation for arbitration......
This is INFURIATING!.... This offer of "good will" is nothing short of a veiled insult, trying to bribe and trick TDI owners out of their rights! Why so many games? They were caught, and admitted the cheat....and now they want to cheat again on their obligations to their customers. I was not happy with the prospect of a retrofit that would likely reduce my fuel economy and reduce power, as well as loss of resale value....but I still wasn't interested in litigation....but now...after this insulting "goodwill" offer of tricks and lies, etc.....Who do I contact and which class action suit is the best bet.....I want a redo...give me all of my money back! I'll go get a Honda....icon_evil.gif

a lot of neighbors have gone out of their way to de-tune their diesel engines. Dont think its any big thing. There should be random road checks to verify the diesel cars and truck now on the road are with in limits. You know the government will never do this tho.

I only buy Honda's but given your sit i would take the money, keep the car and enjoy. With all the press this is getting it might be a good time to but a used diesel car truck. Its just you know all of them have been de-tuned by now anyways.
