Awwww, a candle! How inspiring. Just what is it we're remembering about these people, anyway? That in some cases public funds are being used to implement their lifestyle choices? You're batting 1000 in the weird shit department today, metta.

Oh yeah, keep the T out of GLB!

∆ You took the words right out of my mouth. What IS it that we're supposed to be remembering exactly? Did they all die in a plane crash? And why is this in the "Gay" News and Events section? Transgenders normally claim they're straight, or are you not aware of that?

Wherever he goes, make sure it's a "safe place." Does McDonald's qualify? No, guess not; not all happy places are safe places. Pace, Nietzsche!

    First, thanks Metta.

I would have reacted the same as the shitty assholes above me in this thread maybe even five years ago. I totally get where assholery comes from. Yes, I've been an asshole too. I still am, so lick my underwear fellow assholes.

But I began noticing a new "nephew" in my Facebook feed a year-and-a-half ago. Who the fuck is "Trent?" Not his real name.

Holy shit, that's my niece. Well, she WAS my niece. Her parents are fucking incredible. Supportive, supportive, supportive. Trent's siblings and cousins and high school friends are over-the-top amazing and supportive. Oh, grandma & grandpa too. Holy shit. How did I miss this? Well, I get to holiday meals maybe once every five years 'round the time a parent dies...and Facebook...yechhhh.

She was a lesbian in high school. After school she realized she was a he. And he is so happy as a he. Back when she was in high school she knew I was gay, and at the funerals was very drawn to me, wanting lots of close time and hugs. She was happy to know she wasn't abnormal, because her uncle was cool.

When I saw him just a couple of months ago at my wedding gathering, there he was, a happy happy guy. And wanting to have fun, pose for pictures and show me how big his muscles were getting. I told his mom & dad, you guys are the best. His mom cried, but a happy cry.

So, fellow assholes above, come along with me. Grow up. Trim some of that smegma hair from the edge of your taint and experience adulthood and civilization for a change.

I think the "asshole" attitude you see comes from resentment. Resentment that this whole Trans movement has been forcefully joined to our hips without our permission. And to make matters worse, this is under the "Gay News and Events."

Good, valid points. The Transgender movement is a major liability and massive embarrassment to gay, lesbian, and bisexual people worldwide. We have absolutely nothing in common with these people. Remove the T from the GLB community ASAPicon_exclaim.gif

I don't know him so I have no idea if he's "flakey" or not. And he makes a lot of sense normally, but I don't get what he's trying to say here. Unless he's saying gay people don't want transgenders to have equal rights because we were here first. I hope that's not what he's saying because that's incredibly ridiculous.

Good story man. I love especially your revealing your personal revelation. Such a shame that some so-called lawyer can't think outside of his box of donuts to consider that for many just maybe trans isn't a lifestyle choice but an inner self. What loving person wouldn't come to the defense of their family.

I wasn't aware trans had a remembrance day but I knew the reference as soon as I read the title. So then to read some of the shit on this forum is, um, well, not reflective of the good people in my offline life. Your post here is the exception. Good on your for supporting family, yours and LGBT-lite.

It weird how some gays want tolerance, understanding and respect while demonstrating so little of those ideals themselves against certain others. It seems to be my fellow 40+ year olds that are particularly threatened... showing the same lack of empathy towards trans people (and others) as homophobes show us. Behind that all that barking anger and resentment, you can feel the fear and anxiety in every nasty comment. The nastier the comment, the bigger the insecurity. I know it because I've been there myself. Hope you guys can work through it. Life is so much better when you can let go of the heavy crap and accept that your opinion isn't the only perspective.

While I don't agree that the T necessarily belongs in the LGB umbrella, I don't look down on trans people and definitely can empathize. I do know that SOME trans people don't consider themselves gay and I get the arguments. I just don't get the nasty attitude against trans people, bi's, lesbians from our community at all. Its ridiculous.
