    It comes only once
    Just one time a year
When you're asked to give thanks
    To those who are dear

    Dinner will come
    To those you will serve
    A meal of love
    For they do deserve

    Or you could be alone
    Which is good too
    For those who to thank
    Are far in the few

    Like that bitch at work
    Who never does smile
    She pisses you off
    She's so very vile

    Or that friend who left
    When you needed them most
Raise your glass that they're gone
    I join in your toast

    The boss who demands
    That you give him more
    He works your butt off
Grinds you down to your core

    It's the ones who support
    And never think twice
    That fill you with joy
    And don't fake the nice

    When you walk away
    From those in your life
    Who never did care
    But wanted your strife

    Thank the world for that
    For they don't deserve
    The love that you gave
    Your soul to preserve

    There are people out there
    Who will raise you up
    'Cause that's what they do
    They will fill your cup

    And it feels so nice
    When they touch your hand
    You've connected yourselves
    For they understand

    So wish them well
    And peace and good joy
    A new friend you made
    You deserve to enjoy

    But the bad out there
    Who've caused you much pain
    They need our love too
    'Cause life's so insane

I'm thankful that my husband and I get to leave your insane country next year and go back home.

Truth & insight often come from humor, and in this case also prose. Nicely done.

This Thanksgiving I'll be thanking my friends, with whom I'll share the day. Strange, because I always imagined myself a loner, the "rugged individualist" who didn't need anyone.

And I suppose I still don't absolutely "need" these guys, I remain pretty independent & resourceful in a functional sense. So that some of them rely upon ME at times.

No, it's something else. With age I've grown to just like people. And to have friends, people who like me, too, and who want me to spend Thanksgiving with them.

So what I'll thank this Thanksgiving won't be what's on the table, but who's sitting around the table with me. icon_biggrin.gif

I started an "Orphan Thanksgiving" years ago. For all the gay guys I knew that did not have family in my area. My now ex- Mother in law helped me cook a huge turkey dinner for maybe 5 guys the first year but now 25. Guys that moved from another city and work or finances did not allow them to go home. Plus, Myrna, my ex Mother in Law was the classic Mom, she loves the gays and she chided everyone for not eating enough or, in my case, eating too much. We did it for years. I went to prison for 5 years, and she kept it up even when I was not there. Her son left me and she kept coming over on Thanksgiving cooking meals for all my friends. Turkey, stuffing, yams, potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie from scratch. She kept it up and it became a thing that everyone had to come to.

    Most of that is true.

    She never made yams.

I just had lunch with her. My ex-Mother in Law does not consider me her ex- son in law. I am family forever.

I'm thankful for all you crazy guy's on here, sometimes you really make my day with your senses of humor, advice, and make my life a little less boring. Right now you all are about the closet thing I have to having gay friends. So if ever I have offended anyone in the past, I apologise. Hope everyone on here has a happy thanksgiving.

Your genes. They got you here, as your ancestors somehow survived while millions of others did not.

These are the perfect comebacks for homophobic family members at Thanksgiving

Aunt: 'God isn't okay with gay marriage' Me: 'But he's okay with your two divorces?'
