I am relatively new to RJ and am wondering what's the deal with the politcal weirdos?
There seems to be 4 or 5 posters that only post about topics that are meant to be politically divisive.
Most of the time, these posters don't even have any comments on what it is they are posting about, they just post some random thing: "Obama says" or "Trump says" as if it's meant to be some proof of some opinion they already have, that we're supposed to know ahead of time?
I have tried interacting with some of these folks and it's just usually some one word response. Or another video about some other random thing. It quickly became clear that there is no interest in political discussion, just political lecturing without the lecture. Political lecturing by proxy.
I guess my questions is, wtf? I have never encountered this on any other forum. It's kind of scary how one dimensional these people seem to be.
Yes, you can thank the automated headline and link copy and paste Metta unit for that, and to a lesser extent, RJ member the "woodsmen" (he appears to only be allowed to copy and paste from The New York Times) - I guess the institution where he is housed only permits access to RJ and The New York Times.
This site, for some strange reason, allows members to post a headline and link to create a topic and that's it. I direct your attention to the "Gay News and Events" forum and you will see the evidence of this, as just one RJ member has managed to flood that forum with his "topics." That same RJ member also posts pro-leftist, pro-liberal, pro-Democrat, anti-center, anti-right, anti-religion and anti-Republican topics in this forum and the "News and Politics" forum.
I learned a while ago that trying to engage that particular RJ member in debate is useless. The member is here to simply hurl a stink bomb into a crowded room and then step back and watch the ensuing chaos. He will never respond to other members who try to engage him in debate on the topics he creates.
So in an attempt to bring at least some balance to the forums by presenting the other point of view, I and several others have taken a cue from the automated Metta unit and do the same.
I would love if the admin would introduce a new rule here that would require the originator of a topic to actually post his own thoughts
(what a novel idea) and merely post the link to the article as a citation.
Perhaps as a new member, you could impress upon the admin here that a discussion forum
means that topic originators can't simply post a headline and link and then vacate the premises. I would gladly go back to discussing topics should such a rule be instituted.
Some topics that illustrate the automated copy and paste behavior I described:http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4142914http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4141213http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4139304http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/3847605http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4139150
