What is the best software available right now for web design?

It seems like the major companies have all dropped out of it:

    Microsoft Expressions

Adobe has Muse but I hate doing the monthly subscriptions.

Dreamweaver is still in development and Microsoft expression web is now free to download since they stopped development. Both are decent if you are coding yourself.

Microsoft is focusing on visual studio hoping to make it better for app developers.

The last time I used muse, maybe over a year ago, it still felt like it was being built and felt incomplete. I do like the concept of it since I am familiar with InDesign, just needs to be better for the cost.

Are you working with any CMS? If so notepad and expression web are great free options and while I'm still learning Dreamweaver, the latest update provided sync of snippit libraries and improvements to the help files. I'm a little surprised I'm even suggesting Dreamweaver.

I'm using Expression now but I'm concerned about it getting old.

Dreamweaver is the top WYSIWYG choice for professionals. There are several other options available.
