    Hi,

I work for Compete, The Gay Sports Magazine and wanted to get an idea for how many people on this site have heard of it or read.

I'd also like to get the opinions or some input from anyone who has seen the magazine.

    Thanks.

Never heard of it. However, the name does sound similar to Competitor.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Here are a few places you can see more:

www.competemag.com (includes some articles from the magazine)
    www.myspace.com/competemag
    competemag.blogspot.com
    or our facebook group "Compete"

Here is an excerpt from our press release on our name change:

"While in the process of choosing a new name, the publishers of Sports Out Loud were inspired by Billie Jean King. During a conversation, King spoke of her toughest competitor being herself. The Compete name speaks to the common drive to overcome personal limitations in sports and in life."

I think I mentioned in a different thread that I've been a subscriber from Sports Out Loud issue 2. I really like the magazine, but I've had difficulties with customer service. After moving, I had to contact like 6 people several different times to finally get my address updated (though they were all polite so I wasn't angry or anything - but I did miss the swimsuit issue - D'OH!)

But yeah, the magazine is cool. And I like the new name.

    Hi,

You mentioned "many gay sports publications." I wasn't aware there are other publication who are specific to gay sports. What other gay sports publications exist?

    Hi joggerva,

I'm really sorry to hear about that experience and I'll mention it to our publishers so that it doesn't occur in the future.

Which swimsuite issue did you miss, last year's or the year before? I'll make sure you get one.

    Follow-up:
Thanks FrontRow! I got the issue in the mail yesterday. Yay! Scratch what I said above about difficulties with customer service. Haha.

Oh, and about the swimsuit issue. I have to say kudos on your model selection. I am personally much more attracted to "healthy and active" than "perfected" (your models contrasted to the professional models in the underwear/swimsuit ads). The guys and gals in that issue seemed like a fun group. Thanks again!

    Hi Joggerva,

I'm glad I was able to resolve this issue.

I'm OVERJOYED that you liked our swimsuit issue. We try to be different by using actual athletes instead of hired models. I think it really sets us apart.

    Thanks!

Never heard of it. Does it have any exercise and fitness stuff in it? I don't really buy mags, read most of my info online and save the trees, blah, blah, blah.

At this time, any fitness or excercise stuff if based on any articles that are written in the magazine, but we will be adding a section about that in our May/June issue.
