What do you think of the newest trend in dying your hair gray? A lot of girls are doing it, and apparently a lot of guys as well. Mostly younger...

I will admit, I think it's kind of cool. I'm actually considering it myself. I figured it would be a neat way to embrace the grays that are already starting to come in. icon_razz.gif

Only works if all your features are clearly young, including your hairline. I had friend (straight) do it and it does look amazing. Though to do it right, I gather you have to bleach it all down to white and then come back in with color. Sounds awful. I haven't seen him since he had it done, maybe a month ago. I wonder how it looks when it grows out?

Looks good on some people. I am amazed its a trend though sense Our culture views aging as the worst fate that can befall a person.

All the Latino kids around here were bleaching their hair shocking blonde, one summer a few years ago. When it grew back in, they looked like a bunch of skunks or something. Maybe the Munsters.

just a thought; might shave off the none matching facial scruff and match up grey the eye brows.

It's just something that is up to the guy - whatever he wants to do. I don't like gray hair on myself. I even touch up my temples because I look better, more alive, less tired out with my natural color over the gray. Here's another guy I think looks so much better with his great dark hair, over the gray. (John Barrowman). He says he and his husband like the natural color brown over the gray and he says he's had his hair colored for a long time.

I agree with previous comment; if you're young and have a good hairline this can look alright -but i wouldn't suggest trying it at home. Hire a professional and have it done right the first time. Keep in mind that any kind of a drastic change from your natural color is going to require some maintenance....which means a regular appointment every 4-6 weeks and an investment of $. Also, the new hair growing in will be your natural color so it will look "rooty".

Or, OP you could wait a few years and it will happen naturally! icon_lol.gif

Depending on ones area of work, a lot of guys have done it for years to look more mature.

As someone with the darkest hair known to man, I'm here to tell you, gray grows in everywhere and it is very obvious. When I say everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE (with the exception of the palms of my hands and bottom of my feet).

I have a gray streak right in the middle of my head - it's wild how it grew in that way, but I like it.

Only do it if the last complimentary adjective you want to hear ever applied to yourself to be "distinguished". It gets old fast when you're just 20...and continues...and continues.... It takes decades until the description is age-appropriate. Been there, lived that.

What happened, did they run out of purple?

When boomers started balding we brought in the buzz cut so no one would notice. And of course the kids picked up on that. They wanted what we had. Thank you Oedipus. Gone was the comb over; it became okay to be bald in the world.

Now as ever more of us grey, we're exporting that look too. So now as the hip kids are out dying their hair, we older guys blend in better. The plot thickens as the hair thins.

Next we're going to make crows feet cool. You'll be tattooing them onto your face.

And just wait until enough of us become incontinent. Try mimicking that! Yep, time to die. Bye bye cruel, smelly world.

No need to pay for what happens naturally.

Guys who have so much money that they can waste it on hair dye should spend the bucks on a shrink instead.
