In terms of "gay beauty" that is to say does the representation of the ideal gay man who is white/caucasiod muscle Mary body of an Adonis colours or influences you're attraction to other men. So that others who fall short of that image like me as I am black you would never give the time of day to because I am not who the gay media pushes

    Just wondering ?

I think no one can deny the affect of "westernized beauty standards" on what we perceive to be attractive (again depending on which part of the globe you are from). But personally, I find more than just a physical "look" appealing. I look at a person as a whole. Their character, their sense of self, their values. How in tune they are with themselves, rather than subscribing to a "norm." I guess I like natural people who are comfortable with themselves.

Not only this happens in gay society pal, even from where I am from, the ideal beauty relies on white people, and native or black people are taken for less. This normally happens where white people have a lot of influence, so it could be said it comes from long ago.

No you're talking about Hollywood. You're talking about fiction. You're talking about ratings, you're talking about fanbase.

Someone who is going to base their relationships in public off fictionalized hollywood media propaganda, I don't want to mess with anyways.

As a fellow black guy, If you're saying does this make it harder for people to date non white guys? yes.

Does it mean all hope is lost? No.

That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Just continue to live your life like it's golden and hopefully you will find happiness.

Actually, the gay media pushes the hell out of you. If by "gay media" you mean Magazine covers and Gay Newspaper spreads, black men are all over them, and Latino men, and POZ men. Here in Dallas, black ass is all over the Gay Newspaper every week it comes out. You need to wake up. Racism in our community, I agree, exist, but all out denial of our existence, no. To the contrary, the media paints a very pretty picture. It's sometimes hard to see the bubbling Transgender controversy most weeks reading the gay newspaper. Bears always get a corner and some weeks the whole paper is bears. Matt, racism in this community is not as engrained as you think. As I see it, it's more of a fetish, where in, some sick puppies indulge. The gay community maybe doesn't admonish the fetish enough, but the GAY media does not push it or exasperate it.

These plus the photo ads in "gay" magazines and/or the billboards featuring the latest HIV drug (which have smiling GQ models laughing over drinks at the piano) and for "gay" underwear in West Hollywood or other mecca cities.

Agreed, the ads in "gay" magazines features all sub-racial groups...but ALL of the people used possess "white bread" model looks.

Racism is not as ingrained? We are living in different worlds.

Guess I rarely, if ever encounter "gay media" in my day to day life then.

Well, when I think about gay, media and black people, what might fall short wouldn't be the first image to come to mind.

The automated headline and link copy and paste Metta unit certainly does, with a huge chunk of what it posts here coming from "gaystarnews.com"

Damn it! I lose a dollar. Oh well. Nice to see you're not as predictable as I suspected.

Instead of complaining about big cut black dick, you thought to politicize the black thread by complaining here about Metta8. I did wonder what that 8 gay advertised, so you might be on to something.

The photos, & ads you seem to be reffering to I don feel is something I " subscribe " to. The ads are often embarrassing in my opinion as I rarely feel I can relate, or that I'm represented in the photos. Occasionally there may be a a guy in them that I find aesthetically pleasing, but generally no.

Not at all. It's consistently histrionic and incredible. But, I like to know what's going on across the spectrum, from all sides, so I'm better informed and able to make those dreaded judgments that others condemn while making themselves.

No I do not. I have my own standard of male beauty and more often than not it doesn't coincide with what the gay media presents. My sphere is a quite a bit wider.

    Exactly.
No one would ever dare admit to their hidden biases, therefore making this a pretty useless and shit thread.

Not me. I have my own preferences, and they don't include young, hairless, blonde twinks who look underage.

But I'll say this... the little gay media I have been exposed to (I dont subscribe to magazines and watch or read "gay" news specifically)....a bias I have is that the struggle of the gay white man is similar to the struggle of a person of color. That because I am gay ....I am "the other".... like people of color are "the other". I was influenced to think that I know what a person of color's experince is like because I too have been marginalized by society, faced discrimination, etc. .

I have been influenced to believe that white gay culture (brunches, sunday fundays in the gayborhood, cocktails, just generally being fab and checking into cute places on Facebook )...is in fact the norm for all gay men, whether white or not. That the black guy...who happens to be gay has the same story as me. had the same struggles as me..Forget the added layer of him being black.... Forget the fact he cannot hide his blackness... like I can technically hide my gayness... I've been influenced to believe that my experince as a gay white male is universal for all gay men. anyone feel the same way? agree disagree?

I dont think it's influenced me so much tho that I'm like nuts about Madonna, Lady Gaga hot guys wearing speedos holding a beach ball....tho I do enjoy a good drag show.

I think as we get older, we discover for ourselves what we really want. I care less about what a guy looks like and more about how he behaves and makes me feel.

...as he/you think. Racism is real. Ok, it's real, so is skin fungus. Like skin fungus, not as many people have it as you think and there is medicine for it. Especially in Dallas and Oklahoma, I see people trying. I see the gay community trying to establish unity. In my post, I meant that - gay media tends to sweep it under the rug and its not apparent in pictures. Does it still exist. I barely notice it anymore. Read my stuff. Get ripped, its a great equalizer. I also still don't buy that only white models are on the cover of gay magazines, especially with the way gays objectify black men. I know, because the same gay guys bitching about racism, bitch about objectification, sometimes in the same breath. Blah, blah, blah, lust is in the love family and it puts a lot of hung black Mandingos on magazine covers and Latinos: fixtures on the covers of gay magazines. You don't strike me as the kind to peruse the magazine racks. I call bullshit.

Nah nah bs come on sure Black men are welcomed to pretty much all the aspects of gay culture-bars,sauna, brunches. After all it's business and they need the money, but whilst they are in the same gay envioroment as white men. They are stll seen as the uninvited guest and not sexually accepted by white men and seen as less than due to the gay racial hierarchy

It's a case of we will accept you're business but never you sexually and perhaps socially because you are the wrong race
