    Because I'm worthless and
    want to feel valuable.

I also like feeling energetic and able bodied. I regret that my parents never encouraged me athleticly. Now I'm looking to learn to do all of the things I would have done as a kid had I had better parents.

You are not worthless and the true value is within yourself
look at it like an opportunity to learn something new now thanks to your parents who probably did the best job they could raising you

I was just joking about being worthless. I love me. If that's the best they could have done I might have been better off being given up for adoption. I love me despite their horrible parenting.

I have a desk job and I would feel sluggish if I don't work out.

Also, I want to look better and feel better. I'm a hard gainer, so I need to put on some muscle weight to look healthy.

It's good for me health-wise, it makes me feel vibrant, and it improves my proportions. If the question were expanded to Why do you go to the gym and work out?, I'd add that I like the dynamic vibe at the gym, it's gratifying to see good-looking and well-built guys, and I like the mix of cultures (very diverse membership).

So I can fit in my suits for work. I have a few sets.. my big boy suits and my feeling FIT suits..
Guess which I prefer to wear. Yep, the ones that fit.

When I'm Fit. Which is most the time.. except around the holidays when Santa temps me with sweeter than normal things!

    That Bitch!

    For me,

    90% to be more attractive.

    10% health benefits.

Though in my mind, i like to think the percentages are reversed, but if i am honest it's mostly about looking good and other people's attraction to the projection of strength.

I work out so I won't slap the shit out of the fat ass in front of me in the express lane--6 jars of frosting doesn't count as one item.

Because I feel better when I do. Because I'm healthier when I do. Because I love my sport and want to be in good shape for it.

I work out (and swim my laps) because of the 'high' I get each and every time I come away from the gym or pool. Also - I look damn good for this age - better than a whole lot of guys my age. I'm still able to do about the same kind of work out routines I was taught back in my water polo playing days as an undergrad. So essentially, I work out and swim laps to feel and look my best.

That is a good question. Obviously health, fitness, longevity, appearance. All those work for me.

Maybe because I never wanted to be beat up by a bigger straight guy? Build a shield?

    Vanity? Definitely.

It was not about looking younger cause I started at 15. It has paid off now that I am 52 because I do not so much look younger but project younger if that makes sense.

The challenge? I am not a great swimmer, golfer, runner, tennis player, ect. But everyday I go in to the gym and challenge myself. My background was a boxer and wrestler. Not a team sports player. I like challenging myself. Weight lifting allows me to do that. It is me and the weight. Win or lose. Today I win. Tomorrow the weight wins.

I think that is what get's me in the gym everyday. My private competition between me and the weights.

I hated having a kid's body. Wanted to look like an adult male. Looks better and people respect you more. And the strength is a plus.
