    The doctrine of pure contributory negligence never made as much sense as it does in this situation - and I see it enacted everyday wherever I go.

    The Zombie apocalypse is already upon us.....

    Seriously, it is a growing issue, in Australia it seems wearingh headphones as well in a growing trend...pedestrians are unaware of the environment around them.

    When driving my car I am frequently in a position where a pedestrian is completely oblivious to my presence.

    I had the surreal experience recently of travelling by train and everyone in the compartment had their heads down looking at their phones for the whole of the journey. I felt I was in a Twilight Zone episode or something surrounded by androids.

    This is not the "doctrine of contributory negligence" at play--it's the "doctrine of sheer stupidity."
