I have really enjoyed staying away from this area but this article needed to be seen. It states why the conventional thinking this time around might not be relevant. I've noticed some of the anti-Trump posts here should have embarrassed the posters, showing such hysterical idiocy.

    .....................................

There seems to be a broad consensus among punditry of all stripes that a Trump candidacy might spell disaster for Republicans next November. Maybe, but maybe not. Trump might beat Hillary, and he might beat her decisively.

If this sounds counterintuitive, then think about this: everything this election season is counterintuitive. Trump in a general election battle with Hillary would have several potentially devastating advantages.

I think if we have a couple more terrorist incidents here in the US, that will be a bunch more likely.

When he first suggested a pause in Muslim immigration, all the talking heads on both sides said how terrible it was. Now especially with the recent polls, it seems more mainstream. People said the Constitution would not allow this - as if the Constitution provides equal rights for people outside the country.

It's just an opinion piece from some right-wing website created by and for fact-challenged people who believe that liberalism is the root of all evil. It doesn't even pretend to be based on anything other than the writer's own speculative musings.

Of course Trump might win, just like I might win the national lottery.

I dont' see Trump truley a viable Republican contender. His brash and offensive and sometimes insulting decorum isnt something I see in a presidential canidate. Moreover, I cant see his policy on many issues to be taken seriously.

I think the republican party use him as a puppet to polarize people so when people say ..hmmm? I dont think he is the man for the job, but who else is there, then that is when the Republican party put forth the real canidate. JUST a theory?? I am not Dem or republican, just a casual observation made in past elections.

    Bored today?

    Nothing to do?

No one to do it with?

    Looking for an argument?

    Again, as I said earlier

"I want a big reduction in all types of immigration, H1Bs too "

So, too many immigrants too fast. Won't assimilate.

Could be a gym full of very white Russians and my comment still stands.

You happy now? No? Now what do you want?

We have an abundance of solid candidates, but no one can get any air with the media covering trump and all of the outrageous things he says as much as the media is doing.

Just trying to figure out what you meant. In five years your gym is suddenly more Indian than white. Ok... and that bothers you, why? So many assumptions in what you say -- that they're not terrorists, that they won't assimilate. So you want to bring them in more slowly? That would help because, I guess, they couldn't flood your neighborhood so quickly and they'd assimilate better because they're surrounded by native-borns?

southbeach1500 saidWhy Trump might win ... "and he might beat her decisively"

I've been thinking that if Trump wins, it would be by an electoral landslide.

Polls indicate and my own experience talking with people show that folks absolutely hate political correctness (PC). They think it is a cancer that is destroying the country. Obama and Hillary are the chief PC practitioners not even willing to label terrorism as Islamic for fear of offending ordinary Muslims.

People I know who don't like Trump or are even offended by his brashness are now starting to seriously support him. Like viewing him as medicine that has a bitter taste but will rid us of the PC brought to us by this administration and the far left of the Democratic Party. Add to that the widespread opinion that Hillary is an Obama third term and a total liar and scumbag in her own right, and you have the making of a landslide - though it is much too early to predict, still the potential is there.

As an aside - Trump indicated he will dial down the brashness as time goes on, so the medicine may turn out to not be so bitter after all.

Another possibility is a Hillary indictment and Biden stepping in. Might help the Democratic chances. All so interesting.

I'd ask those people you know, why it's a great thing to say what you feel if what you feel is so disgustingly awful. He's a racist, bigot, Islamophobe, nasty awful person, but at least he speaks his mind? I don't know how that is a qualifier to run the world. I'd also ask them how calling terrorism committed by Muslims "Islamic terrorism" solves anything, makes things any better? Should all crimes seemingly committed in the name of religion be called as such? What good would it do to call the Colorado Springs shooter or the Ku Klux Klan "Christian terrorists"?

Many including myself don't share your opinion about Trump. I have heard him and see no evidence that he is a racist. etc. I see many twist what he says to make that statement.

The Islamic connection to terrorism needs to be stated and understood if we are to have a chance to effectively deal with it. These terrorists don't just happen to be Muslims. Violence and jihad is an integral part of their religion even if many are non-violent.

Lots of hysteria going on out there regarding Trump because nobody saw this coming and, so far at least, Trump has proven to be a Teflon candidate who is seemingly unstoppable.

This past week, the morning after the debate, Trump came here to Phoenix for a rally. I went to the rally with friends because we wanted to see for ourselves what all the fuss was about. It was an incredible experience to say the least. I'm so glad i went. I left with a much different feeling about Trump than I arrived with. First off, what surprised me the most was how many people were there -- something like 15,000 -- way more people than they could fit in the huge airplane hangar where it was held. But I was struck by the diversity there -- people of all ages, all races, tons of veterans -- and the patriotism among the entire crowd was palpable. During the 2 hour wait for Trump to arrive, people would start singing songs like "America, the Beautiful" and the crowd would join in. It was freezing cold, at 10am on a Wednesday morning, and 15,000 Phoenicians had come together in an airplane hangar clear the hell out in east Mesa (aka bum-fuck-Egypt) to see Trump. When Trump arrived it was truly something to behold. When Trump's plane started to taxi toward the open hangar, the crowd went NUTS. Just the imagery of the Trump 757 approaching with TRUMP blazoned across the side was almost surreal. The man knows how to make an entrance! There were secret service guys literally everywhere, and as Trump stepped off the plane it was like he was already the President. The backdrop image of Trump stepping off the plane (dubbed "Trump Force One") was no accident. Trump first went to the back where the TV cameras were to tape a segment for that night's FACTOR with Bill O'Reilly then, flanked by secret service, he made his way to the stage. He has an amazingly powerful presence in real-life, looks exactly the same as he does on TV, and is gracious every step of the way, singling out different vets, or people in wheel chairs, young kids, etc to stop and shake hands and acknowledge, autograph their Trump placard, etc. What struck me the most is how truly entertaining he was. Most of the stuff he says is stuff we have heard him say over and over again on the campaign trail like "We're going to build a Wall, and we're going to make Mexico pay for it" which, of course, especially here in Arizona, was something that got a rousing roar from the crowd.

Look, I get it, Trump has tons of detractors, and I understand why, but they were not in that airplane hangar on a cold Wednesday morning in December. He commanded the crowd...they were with him 100%...and he came off as "The Real Deal", like he was doing this for no other reason than that he truly loves this country and wants to "Make America Great Again". Whether it's all just a facade that has become insanely successful due to Trump's mastering of playing the media like a fiddle, and his knowing just what to say, and when to say it -- Who Knows? What I can tell you is that I have been to many political rallies, but nothing even remotely that was like this. This felt like something really REALLY big was happening....like a major movement in the making. I left with an impression of Trump that was far different than the one I arrived with. I'm not saying he sold me, so much as he made me think. President Trump? Hmmmmm....

Here's Trump's whole speech in Arizona if anyone is interested. He is introduced by Sheriff Joe Arpaio...

Article is spot on. Donald Trump will be the first Republican presidential candidate I voted for since 1988.

I've had debates with Bernie supporters, where they instantly start to ridicule Trump....until I start drawing parallels between Sanders and Trump on better trade deals, rebuilding infrastructure, donor class influence, growing numbers of long term unemployed and Trump's early opposition to the Iraq war. Then I toss in that Bernie uses Norway as an example of a country we need to emulate, and inform them about Norway's very tough immigration policy.

Eventually, I see the wheels start to turn in their head. icon_cool.gif

The Republicans here make me laugh.

These threads are textbook examples of cognitive dissonance.

The GOP is a mess and Donald Trump is a joke candidate. The end. 2016 is for the Dems.

The economics that can work for Norway will not work in the US because Norway has wealth from natural resources and a sparse population relative to their wealth.

I talk to US native software developers who can't find jobs, especially once they hit 40. The competition is brutal for the fewer jobs that are out there.

I chatted with a programmer who is here on a visa. He works for an Indian company, who contracts him out to American companies, and takes 1/2 his pay for the privilege. The Indian company doesn't do anything....except suck jobs and money out of the US economy.
