i have never really figured out why bathrooms are segregated anyway. I mean what is there to see in a womens washroom?

It seems more practical to have a front room full of toilets, and a room further in with urinals, and you use whatever you want.

Well, i'm guessing it's so people don't fuck each other? or so men don't try to rape women...I never knew people weren't aware of the reasoning for segregated washrooms.

Men and women share a bathroom at home, but I think it's a matter of opinion. There are some things the opposite sex are not into sharing, and it'd be awkward to use a urinal next to a woman/tranny, think about it. . .

In the US there is still a deep undercurrent of puritanism that runs through the culture. The segregation of toilets by gender, the embarrassment associated with human anatomy (especially breasts and genitals -- remember the outrage over Janet Jackson's nipple??), and the preoccupation with, and judgment of, other people's sexual activity, all are manifestations of the deeply seeded repressive social mores.

Most adults feign an innocence and propriety that would never allow them to share a unisex restroom. (Even using euphemistic words such as "restroom" indicates a discomfort with entirely natural biological functions.)

It's amazing how 0.1% of the population is guilting the entire planet to adjust to their "needs."

I think I'm more with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp on this one. Men wouldn't have to smell women's body smells and women wouldn't have to complain about men leaving toilet seats up or anything else that they don't like about men's bathroom behaviors...even though some guys can be a bit nasty about bathroom use and not wash their hands, etc. Have a separate bathroom for anyone with special needs. Women typically like a place to go and be alone and talk about girl stuff, etc. Let them have their space. The personal attacks may begin.

I'm going to put my opinion on this one, but first a little backstory that segways into the main point of my post:

I took a writing class back in 2012 and one of the topics my writing instructor I research and write about was the third gender category in Thailand.

There were obviously gay men, straight women and men. There was also a third gender category called Lady boys. They were in the middle of men and women.

They were priced differently at restaurants. I don't remember if they had separate bathrooms or not, so I may have to look that up again.

The U.S. for a long time had family restrooms or changing rooms, but that doesn't solve the issue of the harassment that trans people face.

Why can't the U.S. just classify them as a third gender and give them a separate bathroom for both sexes: FTM and MTF?

I don't agree with the pricing because lady boys are charged less then men, but more then women.

There's also Tom and Dee(what we know of lesbian relationships), but they're not always lesbians dating each other. It can be a straight women with a Dee(the man) which is very typical in Thailand.

Having the bathrooms made for these groups would be better than putting them in with cis men and women--this doesn't have anything to do with children safety. That is just a copout for discrimination. We all know that straight people molest and abuse children more then any gay person ever has or ever will.

Sometimes women say stuff that makes me what to be a misogynist. Men never say anything about children safety, it's always women.

I wouldn't feel comfortable next to a transperson on the shower or rest room next to someone who has a vagina, but that's just me.

Duh, its the Liberals who are politically correct puritans. They have been installing individual shower stalls in place of open shower rooms in middle and high schools since the Clinton Administration. Most guys don't see any other male genitals until they have their own son.

Guys in High School don't play "shirts and "skins" during basketball anymore so no one gets offended.

Have you seen the lines for women's restrooms at large events? Do we really want to share restrooms with them? They take in inordinate amount of time in comparison to men. In addition to taking too long in stalls they will stand in front of mirrors primping hair, applying make up, and gossiping with their girlfriends while we are just wanting to wash our hands and get out.

    So a hypothetical.

The mens bathroom is broken/flooded, can i legally use the womens bathroom?

    I think not.

However if I was or at the moment had Transgender thoughts I could use the womens bathroom? According to the metta et al.

How is this not a equal protection problem?

I want a liberal member to actually figure out this problem because frankly I really dont care if a transgender women to man uses the mens room.

But the other way around ( women) could care because well because of the obvious scenario.

Every sick pervert wanting to go into to the womens room will claim to be transgender.

A sick pervert/harassing people in the opposite sex in a women's bathroom, or a men's bathroom for that matter, would be sexual harassment.

A trans woman using the bathroom, how would another person in the bathroom even know what they have between their legs? And if you base it on that, what are you going to do with hermaphrodites? The whole thing gets silly. Just leave people alone and let them be who they feel they are. People should mind their own business. Trans people are generally not the problem. And the LGBT laws being enacted have been created to protect their rights to be who they feel they are.

Those laws do not protect people that rape or sexually harassing anyone. Those laws still apply to anyone. It's just common sense!

I am gay obviously and that makes me a minority. I don't expect the bulk of society who isn't gay to cater to my needs. Like I would want all bars to be gay and all straight men to suck my dick but that isn't going to happen.

Discrimination is wrong, but a special bathroom? Why should the 99.9% of society have to even address issues like this.

Sorry it was early. LOL. I misread the article. My mistake. If all this is about is a trans person using a bathroom they should be able to use whatever one they feel like using. Only they know which gender they are.

Even if it was a special bathroom, not that I think that's needed when there are already existing bathrooms to use, but as a counterpoint of argument towards your pre-misread thinking, the bulk of society does make allowance for the minority at cost and convenience depending on circumstance: handicap bathroom stalls, ramps on sidewalk corners, audio assisted crosswalks, allotted parking spaces, etc.

So to assure safe access to public facilities (be that a building or a park or whatever, even private rental apartments) we do as a society address those issues and make those allowances.

For those acting like entitled cunts lets not forget that the job of the democracy is to protect all its citizens especially those vulnerable to daily complication and myriad truculence.
