There's a place to shave...

And goddammit, it's not at the gym. As much as I hate to randomly rant (which I don't, but I'll say I do), I really have no desire to walk into the locker room, turn the corner, and see your buck-nekkid self shaving in the middle of the day. Save the shaving for home, for chrissakes!

(of course, nothing was worse than when I walked into a shower and realized the drain was clogged with pubic hair from a trim...ewww!!!!)

    Just sayin' is all.

I empathize. Had a BF who used to shave his balls in the Y open gang shower, I'd disappear when he started doing that. Still, I had to admire his nerve, if not his judgment, to do that in front of all the straight guys. icon_razz.gif

The locker room is a totally appropriate place to shave one's face. After a workout, sauna/steamroom and shower, that is a perfect time to finish off with a shave. Stop being such a wuss in the locker room. What's next? ...no changing clothes in the locker room....come dressed to workout, then go home and change.

OMG...that would be perfect!!!! Unfortunately, I have to shower at the gym, as well, so I can't really advocate.

And I'm not saying shaving at the gym is a no-no - people who go before work, or after work and then have plans, or between jobs, but in the middle of one's day (and I know it is for the douche in question). And lest we forget the other portion - at least wear a towel. No need to have your ass and balls dangling around unnecessarily. Like you said, it's a locker room, not a nudist colony.

You didn't specify what was being shaved.

Since I discovered the benefits of the steam room at the gym, I no longer shave at home. Post-steam shaving is the way to go. I always wear a towel when shaving and would never shave anything below the neck at the gym.

If nudity disturbs you, you may want to avoid locker rooms in general then.

Are we talking shaving in the open shower, or at the sinks? I assumed in the shower, because of "I walked into a shower and realized the drain was clogged with pubic hair " in the OP.

In the Army it was common for guys to shave at the sinks while naked, after coming from the shower. I would get a rush walking into the latrine, and see a line of bare asses at the row of sinks; simply glorious! I tried it myself, but would start getting hard, so I usually wore a towel while shaving.

But at my current gym, signs prohibit shaving in the steam room or sauna. The showers are private cubicles, where I haven't seen any signs. Still, I think a sink is the proper place.

Point taken - he was shaving his face.

And it's not that nudity bothers me. I have no problem with nudity. But performing hygienic tasks in the nude, I believe, is best left for home. Like I said, I was just randomly bitching...there are plenty of annoying things in the locker room at my gym, and for some reason, this one just really bothered me (although I suppose the people who sit on the benches bare-assed while reading the paper and eating an apple are much more annoying).

I wear a towel, too. But really, the sight of a man's naked ass traumatizes you that much? Avert your eyes and keep moving. What's next? ...a Locker Room Taliban beating offenders with sticks?

Now thats something I can agree with. Not necessarily the being nude and eating part, although that is odd, but the sitting bare-assed on the bench part. Please, please, please if you insist on not putting clothes on, at least sit on a towel. Its just common courtesy.

Hmmm...possibly. And no, the sight of a naked ass does not traumatize me. It distracts me. ;)

My god I'm bored. Almost time to go home...thank the good lord.

It was the norm for men to shave while naked for most of my life. We did that in Army latrines, and I've seen that in many gym locker rooms. I wonder if the new modesty is a result of the influence of right-wing Christian views. If so, we gays should be the most resistant to this unnatural trend.

As awkward as it can be seeing naked guys doing whatever it is that there doin in the lockerroom, its the mens locker room.
Thats where you change and do whatever it is you do in the bathroom.
We're all guys and adults itr shouldnt really bother anyone
Though they shouldn't be sitting bare assed on the bench without a towel.

I think manscaping in the showers at the gym is pretty tacky -- especially if they are doing it in the steam room (ewwwwwwww!) But, I don't see anything wrong with a guy shaving his face over the sink at the gym, long as they aren't standing there naked. It really drives me crazy when guys walk around the locker rooms butt naked -- cover up with a towel for god's sake -- and it's never a hottie, it's always the 70 year old men who need to be covered up.

Oh no...someone's gonna pounce on you for that...but isn't it true! My boss is a...larger, old hairy guy...loves walking around the gym (we go to the same gym) in nothing but his natural sweater. *shudder*

And you know what, those 70 year old men couldn't care less what you or I think.

    Just look away.

Now I am running away from this thread as more than likely it will become yet another rehash of all the other threads that have dealt with this exact same topic and devolve into a generational flame war.

Nothing against 70 year old men, I just don't get why they think others want to look at their saggy asses roaming around the locker room -- cover the hell up!icon_eek.gif

Jebus, why not just stay the fuck home. Gay men seeing other men shaving, the horrors. I shall need a stiff drink immediately just to get the spinning Mach III's out of my traumatized brain. You poor darling, seek help immediately for PTSD.

Likewise, I recommend you seek a restraining order on the next old fart who looks at you or comes within 100 yards. Chiiirrriiiissstttt, what is the world coming to?

Try wearing this to the ballroom, er locker room. It is perfectly suitable attire for a delicate nance.

You really shouldn't be looking at their asses, should you?

It's a locker room. Grow up.

Damn, I can't even take my own advice and look away from this thread.

Like I said, they aren't even thinking about you or anyone else. They walk around naked because they do not care what anyone thinks about them. They do it for the same reason older guys wear socks with sandals or women wear "mom jeans". Its a natural part of maturing. (how's that for being diplomatic?) People stop worrying about what other people think of them and just do what they want. In some ways its a shame people don't develop that attitude earlier in life.

Did it ever occur to anyone that those 70 year olds are just as annoyed having to listen to the imbecilic conversations being uttered by 20-somethings in the sauna, steam, and locker rooms? Maybe their nudity is their subtle revenge. Perhaps they have had to go so deep into themselves to block out the nonsensical conversations and observations and music, that they are oblivious to their nudity and the hyper-sensitive twinks around them.

I agree, there's a big YUCK factor when the old farts are naked. BUT, may I offer a counterpoint?

Those guys grew up at a time when men DID walk around the locker room naked, as a matter of course. They also swam at indoor pools naked, and were raised in a world where male modesty was considered a perversion, ironically an indicator of gay leanings that were anathema among men.

Pity that their bodies have grown repugnant with age, but they don't know any better. They were raised to have no shame around other men, and assume other men still think the same way as they do.

How tragic that time has moved on, and made them creepers in the eyes of younger men, when they merely continue to do what they've done all their lives. Tragic that younger men don't understand that.

No, what is tragic is that the older men can't seem to notice that they are the only one's walkin around butt naked in the gym and therefore cover up like everybody else.

You know what's even more tragic?

Guys on gay sites who cut out their faces from their pics.

I don't know why we'd expect you to be comfortable in a locker room setting where guys are naturally naked when you don't even have the courage to put a face pic up.
