I have noticed that many times there is atrocious spelling in RJ posts - I can spell, but I no longer care about others' spelling. Many of us can type at 20 errors per minute. For those of you who have trouble spelling, try reading this:

Aocdrndicg to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinvervtisy, it dseno't mtaerr what oerdr the litteres in a word are, the olny improamtnt tihng is that the frsit and lsat lteetr be in the rghit pclae. This is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the word as a alohe (at lseat in Eglinsh.) If you can raed this, you can slepl good eougnh for RJ.

LOL! Autocorrect catches some of mine, while it creates some of its own.

I used to the editor of a professional journal. I'm pretty good with spelling, as well as grammar.

My curse is that I see spelling errors with a single glance. They just jump out at me, in all kinds of print. I'm not proofing or scanning the copy, I just see it.

And yah know, what am I supposed to do? Contact the printer? Or whoever? I just have to let it go.

Though sometimes, if it's local, I'll say something. Just a couple weeks ago one of our favorite restaurants had a sidewalk placard featuring their specials. And something was comically wrong. I wish I could remember, maybe later.

I just glanced at it and knew. So I called the owner over as we entered, whom we know, and said something. She sent somebody outside to correct it.

Nobody in the US can spell anymore. It's almost a mark of shame if you CAN spell properly, or want to.

    Some people care.
    Some people don't care.
I always read what I've written before I hit, "Send."
That way, I can correct any typos, and make sure that what I've written says what I want to convey to whomever reads it.

For me cell phone autocorrect, microsoft word autocorrect, all the web log, twitter, apps autocorrects.. just wore me down.

You end up fighting with a systemic bad spelling autocorrector.. even grammar checker.. to the point where you stop trying, or noticing.

I tried turning them off, deactivating them, but then you get a new phone, or have to use a new computer or shared computer.

Worse.. you apologize to someone you sent a text message to.. then they berate you for waisting their by-the-character text allocation, or simply waisting their time.

There are so many "anti-spell-correct" memes going around that it just doesn't pay to even attempt to spell correct.

Pretty soon you start thinking.. oh they'll think that typo was "cute", or they'll understand.. they read emoji's right?

The 20 somethings even get irrate if you hit a run of perfect texts.. "what is wrong with you dude? don't you ever lighten up?".. I kid you not!

The Queen's (or the Presidents) English and Grammar police communication just isn't in style like it once was.. and could be a detriment in your next job interview.

But there are still mysteries I wonder about.. like why so many double articles keep showing up.. the the.. or and and.. I wonder if its a systemic brain malfunction.. but I see too many other people sending those as well.. so I guess its a secret code our devices are using to piggyback on our communications network.

That is a bit over the top, isn't it?

Actually, I believe that any text with good spelling will attract greater respect from its readers than a sloppy contribution - and that is regardless whether its message is fully agreeable or not.

Therefore I make every effort to make my presentation as error free as I possibly can.

And I'm not even an American.

Typing errors as in typing with 2 fingers and looking at the keyboard while typing.

When I was a teen, my mom forced me to take a typing class. I'm thankful to this day that she made me take the class.
