Where do guys in their late 30's 40's hang out to meet in Dallas that isn't totally part of "the scene"?

I'll be there on January 6th and I'd like to know the same thing. When I've been there in the past I've had horrible experiences with the gay scene there. Their gay scene is VERY "gay" and very pretentious, or at least from my past experiences.

At Country&Western bars and clubs where all the guys wear tight blue jeans, cowboy hats, and pointed cowboy boots and they all drive pickup trucks.icon_cool.gif

I only go to the Eagle. You'll meet more regular guys there. Definitely not pretentious.

Yeah but don't they just wear leather costumes and pretend to be macho?

I would say try Woody's for a more dive bar feel. Cedar Springs tap house which is a newer sports bar/grill with more professional looking people. There's also the grapevine which is a strange dive bar that was voted the best straight bar and the best gay bar in the same year. If you don't care about going to a non gay associated place then the foundry or the truck yard are fantastic. They're very folksy with great food, usually local music that's worth listening to, and reasonably priced drinks.

So.....I was in Dallas and went to a gay bar (against my better judgement.) Flamboyant queens everywhere. But just as I was about to leave I saw this tall, muscular and extremely hot cowboy at the other end of the bar. White cowboy hat, boots, the Wranglers and the whole nine yards. He was a good ways away but he looked fantastic. Then I noticed him wink at me and give me the head nod. I had to look behind me to make sure he was looking at me because he was that hot. He slowly starts walking towards me and as he got closer I noticed he was wearing makeup. When he took his hat off to say hello there was makeup all along the brim of his hat, and that's when I noticed the eyeliner and the over-exaggerated stuffed crotch. Not a chance that was his real dick in those jeans. He said "well well, look at you" in an accent that sounded like something out of Gone With The Wind. The purse that fell out of his mouth could have sent me to the hospital if it had hit my toe. I left immediately. icon_confused.gif

Lol yeah real cowboys have no business clubbing. They have a real job to get to in the morning. I think the strong but effeminate guy is appreciated in Dallas. The culture has kind of shoved its head up its own ass to proclaim a fake acceptance of all lifestyles. The Latin clubs tend to have more "masc" guys but if you're not Hispanic you might get some strange looks going in. Is the New Orleans scene much better tho?

Yes. I'd say about 10% of the guys in the gay bars here are real guys (which still isn't a lot but much better odds than Dallas.) But the major difference is pretentiousness is not much of a problem here. If you're just looking to socialize and make friends, pretty much everyone gets along here. Although I really don't see the point of gay bars in New Orleans considering all the "straight" bars are so accepting here. You can walk up to any guy in any straight bar here and hit on him and he's going to be very cool about it, even if turns out to be straight. In fact, they will usually apologize for not being gay and try to set you up with their gay friend.
