Surprising to some, and possibly not so surprising to the others.

The real issue here is that of the established pattern of sexual behavior.

A str8 dude may have 'experimented' while in HS/college or while serving the military or while being in an environment where access to the available females was limited.

If we are talking one or several such experiences under those specific limiting circumstances, we are really talking about the well-known phenomenon of situational homosexuality in str8 men. Statistically, this counts, since the test persons confirm that they have had sex with the members of the same sex while still seeing themselves as heterosexual. Practically, the matter has relatively little practical importance. Once past the age of experimentation, and once out of the environment conducive to situational homosexuality, most str8 men will return to their usual pattern of sexual behavior, i.e, to dating women. Much as we would want them to be homosexual, bi or pansexual, such men are both functionally and practically straight.

Another issue is that of the str8 men who may have experienced situational homosexuality at one or the other particular stage of their lives, and are now viewing m2m sex as a viable alternative to their declared pattern of sexual behavior being m2f sex. Some of these men identify themselves as being bi, closeted homosexuals, DL, or simply just opportunists. These guys have developed a pattern of sexual behavior that includes m2m sex, too.

Focusing the research on someone's somewhat anecdotal past vs. their functioning patterns of sexual behavior makes for a cool discussion or gossip topic but does not really hold much significance in practical, daily life terms of men.

    Why?

Because it feels GOOD, that's why icon_exclaim.gif

My first 2 "gay" sex experiences were with open minded, semi-drunk "str8" guys who wanted "to fool around".

The math in that article is a little iffy.

I also think the CDCs numbers are a huuuuge under reporting.

The very first reply I saw is why this would be shocking to some.

Heterosexual bigots were right to fear the gay rights movement. Human sexuality is very diverse and men are not as hardwired sexually as we like to tell ourselves. If that were the case gay men should never be able to get it up and impregnate a woman. Straight men do gay for pay. Straight men fool around with other straight men. I believe that if we stop stigmatizing bisexuality you will find that many straight men are much more fluid in there sexuality than we once thought.

I wish this point was made more often (though I'll admit to my own avoidance issues on the whole "bi" front) but I've also heard the point made very loudly and very publicly by a small number of "experts", correct or not, that acknowledging even the tiniest bit of male sexual fluidity would bring "ex-gay" back into the mainstream permanently.

I disagree, of course, but right or wrong I've learned not to take hysteria on head-to-head. Thanks for your post.
