Any chance of the old chat rooms with cams coming back to RJ?

I sure do miss the days when we could interact in real time with people and see each other on cam. There used to be some fun conversations in the old chat rooms! icon_biggrin.gif

I wish. There were some good times in that chatroom! I made a lot of friends there.

Seems like it'd be a bitch to moderate given all the acrimony here...

This, plus some. If someone were to write the code, lease the infrastructure, and find a way to monetize it well enough to pay for these and to hire 24/7 staff not *just* to moderate for harassment but also for illegal behavior, as well as to provide operations support and, while we're at it, the site revamp that would probably be necessary, then the owners might be interested.

Even then, though, they'd be competing with a number of existing social multimedia platforms. It's probably *much* easier just to message your RJ fantasy du jour with a Skype or Hangouts request instead of reinventing the wheel.

The kids these days also do forum-based hangouts from time to time, but they get... emo. Then someone over 22 inadvertently joins and they all freak out and stop posting the links for a while, which is probably just as well, and a few months later the cycle starts over.

I hear you on all counts. Licensing the chat room function of this forum software is probably a bit more cash.

It's funny though, that the nastiest trolling that takes place here isn't anyone under 22. They ain't even under 30. They really ain't even under 40...

True; we do have trolls of all ages here, though, and I hadn't meant to impugn anybody in particular. I just meant the Hangouts threads seemed to have an unspoken college-kids-only rule and I know I wasn't the only one who ruined the vibe for an evening by not realizing this and clicking the link.

The most persistently vicious trolling does seem to have a higher concentration toward one end of the spectrum, but I don't think that's because the nastier trolls are older or vice versa so much as it is because a select few skew the numbers. About this time last year I would have attributed it to retirement, but my motivating examples seem to have disappeared since then. It may just be an acquired skill; I know we have several youngsters who work very hard to emulate the master trolls.
