Because gay men as a whole are commonly perceived as being anti-gun and pro gun control which is definitely not the case.

Which is why "open carry" in homophobic Texas is great news for gays. Texas gays, strap on a 38.

I've never heard anyone voice that perception

Given all those who want every gay person in the country dead, it would be prudent to avail ourselves of our Second Amendment rights.

Use your brain, most gay men live in major metropolitan areas, a majority of gay men vote democratic, most democrats want stringent gun control so that leads to the perception that many gay men are anti-gun.

You have to make a lot of assumptions to get to that conclusion. Maybe because I know many democratic gun owners I don't make assumptions that just because someone is a democratic or a Republican they have a certain view point on particular issues.

This guy comes across as very weak scared and defensive.
    And extremely misinformed.

No one is proposing any gun legislation that would take away his guns.
The only gun legislation that's been proposed is a law to require background checks on NEW gun purchases.
It would have no impact on guns that Americans already own.
So, nobody is coming to take away his guns.
And the law would only bar criminals, terrorists and the mentally ill from being able to buy a gun.

90% of Americans support the legislation.

If this guy is wetting his panties because he thinks that criminals, terrorists and the mentally ill should be able to freely buy guns - he represents an extreme fringe viewpoint.

It's more likely that he's just been brainwashed with fear-mongering gun-lobby-funded right-wing BS.

I understand that he has the right to defend his family and himself, but I wonder if there are other non-lethal methods in which he could do this?

The statistics that he quoted were shocking!

Why would anyone want mentally ill people and criminals to have access to firearms? That's what the NRA is endorsing by unreasonably opposing background checks. And of course the Republican legislators do their bidding every time.

Who is to determine someone is mentally ill ? At one time gays were consider mentally ill and need to be treated. So mentally ill only , can only be subjective. I still dont know why gays are so pro left. Besides all shooters, were well known people who either passed background check , or were just terrorists.

I'd suggest pushing guns with rubber bullets or something. They do a lot of damage regardless so it offers people a way to defend themselves assuming they just want to protect themselves. Guns might as well be toys in America without the lethal ammunition it takes to play with them. We reached a critical point. Imagine this country at 500M people, it could happen in the next 50 or so years. Do we need 500m frivolously armed citezens? How much more prison space will we "need"? The more armed we are the more armed and "defensive" our law enforcement becomes. It's a hot ass mess but thats what the hundreds of years worth of gun culture created in America.

Yes, this is the exact reason, why the Russian, anc Chinese would never do a ground invasion. Because they knew americans would fight back.
