NYT: Traveling throws off one’s routine -- and constipation may be one result, said Dr. Brooke Gurland, a colorectal surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. “We’re creatures of habit,” including when it comes to bowel movements, she said. “People have a time when they do that, and once we throw the schedule off, we can become completely disrupted.”

Other gastrointestinal ills like diarrhea, indigestion and bloating are even more likely than constipation to develop during a trip. But certain factors may increase the risk of constipation, including traveling across time zones. Dehydration caused by air travel also contributes.

Seeing Jeh Johnson's face on some bullshit "public service ad" at the TSA queue goes a long way towards causing me discomfort.
