Feeling down

Anyone understand the feeling you get sometimes as if you are a pariah among gays just because of your age? It seems damn near impossible to start a conversation with a gay guy without them suspecting your motives.

The other day I was in an adult toy store getting lube, and noticed a couple of young Asian guys. I approached them and asked if they were gay, and one sarcastically said "nah we just love shopping for dildos". I tried to relate to them by mentioning "there are a lot of gays in Asia... I've been there a few times, wonderful place". They replied "oh you're one of those..." and walked away.

Why are they so rude? I wasn't even hitting on them! Just trying to make conversation on a thursday evening.

    It's their loss.

Don't let it get you down.

There are rude people everywhere. It may not even be because of your age. They are rude for whatever reason.

I can totally see why your second line would be off-putting to Asians sick and tired of hearing about their peers in less-fortunate countries getting exploited by elderly sex tourists who can't find young meat in America. C'mon, tell me that wasn't on your itinerary those times you were there.

You likely misinterpreted the initially-friendly sarcasm because of what happened after.

Please, do not try your present approach anywhere in Europe.

Asking people you have never seen in your life before if they are gay/str8/bi/trans/pan or whoever is considered very rude. Most people around here may be out but everyone still values his privacy, and would not want to be addressed by a total stranger in such a manner.

Making such a profound statement as in 'there are a lot of gays in Asia' or anywhere else for that matter, will most likely send the guys running for the hills everywhere not because of your age or looks but because of the very shallow nature of your comment.

Yup. Every dating market on this planet discriminates against the older players. There is no reason to start feeling down about it.

Consider giving yourself a general makeover. Accept the challenge of modernity fully and wholeheartedly, so that you drop shallow and naive comments and approach attempts ASAP. Work on projecting your best sides to the rest of the world, and the things will start looking much better for you!

there is so much fail in the first post that it really is sad.
if you cant date people half your age, date your own age, if you cant date people of a different race, date your own race. If that doesnt work out THEN you have a problem. You dont have a problem at the moment. Perhaps while "LUBE SHOPPING" is not a great time to hit on strangers that havent been flirting with you at all.

Yeah, i kind of think you're the dick in this situation. I mean, were you about to ask them if they enjoyed rice next or what? icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe don't talk to asians about asia ,or blacks about africa or germans about nazism until you know them a bit better. I agree with what's his face though, you might want to work on yourself. If you are approaching or leaving with the idea that they rejected you based on your age (which to me translates as based on your looks) you might want to improve there either in reality by looking better, or mentally by not judging yourself so much on what others thinks of you. (or both ideally)

Also, think of the environment. Sorry, any man or woman talking to me in a sex shop, that doesn't work there, is hitting on me in my mind regardless. Especially if they asking me about my sexuality.

The only worse place to try and have the conversation you had is probably in the men's bathroom.

And your second question. That's on par with someone asking you where are you from? You say I'm from the US and they replying Oh I have a friend in Milwaukee maybe you know them?

How the hell do you know they are from Asia? Maybe they are american and have never been.

If they hadn't been rude at best they would have humored you.

Next time pick a better location to strike up a conversation. And if you have to comment on someone's ethnicity at least ask them where they are from (a specific country/state/town) before you ask if there are any gay people.

His White privilege won't allow him to see how off putting his second question was. So many of these men don't see themselves as exploiting others. They just see it as helping each other out.

Hmm..... Yes, it seems like the wrong place to ask those kind of questions. I feel like you can't just walk up to someone and ask them if they are gay. It happened to me in college and I felt really angry about it. Some girl tried to hook me up with some other gay guy....just because I'm gay. I hate that.

I don't think your age had anything to do with it.
Your pick up lines seemed pretty lame.

No, I wasn't planning to do anything when I was in Thailand. The people from the brothels practically usher me in while I'm on the street, so how can anyone say no to that? How is that even exploitation when I'm the one being approached?

Do you actually listen to the stuff that comes out of your mouth?

Read the first 3 sentences in that paragraph and it should be abundantly clear why those guys mistook you for a pariah.

    Broaden your own scope first.
Young guys like daddy's, but daddies who only do young guys might be missing out. Ageism (young or old) is meaningless. What's important?
    -Compatibility
    -Maturity
    -Respectfulness

P.S. Work on your pickup lines too. FYI, Most would think your socially off with your above comments.

Hmm sounds like the approach was just a little off.
However, the response was unnecessarily rude too.

    Better luck next time.
