Countries usually do things to advance their self-interest, but Iran surely would not welcome a President Trump. Assuming the Iranian leadership is smart, the logical explanation is the satisfaction they get from embarrassing the US and more importantly their failure to understand their actions on US voters.

Possibly they are equating US voters with the US President, who they enjoy poking in the eye. They can do anything to the US and know Obama will kowtow to them. They have received such a good deal from the Obama administration to the point that Obama seems to have some kind of pro-Iranian agenda. Hopefully the next administration will investigate this.

But the video does not just try to humiliate the US, but certainly the sailor, his family, friends, and comrades. It was so unnecessary, so over the top. This kind of thing really annoys Americans, not only because it occurred, but also because we know they can get away with it because we have a weak, incompetent president. Any chance, for example, Obama would stand up to them and delay sanctions relief pending further actions, including an apology from Iran? Not hardly.

This kind of escapade makes people really impatient to get someone tough like Trump, who will react, not just sit and take it.

Several of the candidates have pledged to tear up the Iran deal, negotiated by fools from the US.

But Kerry was "furious" and "infuriated" so all is well.

Not to rub salt in the wounds, but had the USN taken better care while operating near Iranian territorial waters, this "embarrassment" wouldn't have occurred.

An almost identical incident occurred with the RN back in 2007. It was very well publicized and you might imagine the USN would have learnt from that mistake. Instead of "ripping" Iran, the USN should be court-martialing the commander who was immediately responsible for this f*ck-up. Just be grateful that thawing US/Iranian relations brought a quick resolution to the matter.

If American/Iranian relations are thawing, than why do so many Iranian nationals have this offensive love affair with stomping on and burning the American flagicon_question.gif

The BBC's World Affairs Editor explains it better than I could:

"Iran. OK, now you’re thinking of seething crowds of angry men and black-wrapped women screaming “Death to” whoever it is this week. Stonings. Glowering ayatollahs.

These things exist, just as the danger of being hijacked in South Africa exists, or being randomly shot in America. But they aren’t the norm. They’re just what people like me put in our news reports."
