Do straight people even watch American Horror Story?

Every episode of AHS: Hotel seems to be semi-hardcore gay porn, and almost all of the few straight characters on the show are "flexible". I first noticed Coven as somewhat-gay since it's mostly the men being objectified, then Freakshow had specifically-gay characters with many of the erotic scenes being gay, but now it's like they're not even trying to make this for all audiences...

I tried to get into that show but just couldn't do it. It really kind of sucked after the first few episodes.

I used to watch True Blood before that show lost its way....quite a few gay characters in that. Black Sails has its share of homosexuality going on. Also Shameless has a fair amount of gayness.

I think in general for t.v. shows, it's just part of diversity and easy writing. How do you make a character stand out as different? Make him or her gay. Boom, interesting! Or atleast, differentiating, from the other characters.
It's probably more lazy writing and an attempt to be trendy or hip than anything. I imagine there are too few gay people to go after that audience without making the show overtly homosexual and even then. Though that's just a total freaking guess on my part.

I get that the writers are gay, but I just find it odd how willing they are to alienate most of the available viewers. Glee and Modern Family are kinda gay, but at least palatable for straight audiences, because the majority of story lines reflect the majority of the demographic. I guess it's like when they make black shows for black people?
