Is it just me or are gay men getting more basic by the year?

It seems like we're in a race to become essentially the same person. What happened to all the weirdos, freaks, and oddballs?

I'll never forgot this conversation I had with this rocker, goth dude at a bar once. He was older, in his late forties, and was lamenting the fact that he "was never going to find a husband" because he was too "different." My heart kind of broke.

We claim to be accepting of all kinds of people, but in the end, if you're not conventional (in appearance, opinions, values, tastes, lifestyle), then you're kind of doomed to outsider status.

They became the norm once hipsters became mainstream.

100% false. I'm far from a hipster and I've been called weird so often I might actually answer to it as if that's my name.

We live a glorious age were weird can be normal. Weird, different, oddballs are all around you. Chances are you know many people who have many different talents, ideas, beliefs, habits and hobbies that would surprise you.

The weirdos, freaks, and oddballs are the ones who are governing this country.

    Where have you been?

Damn I need to date a politician then. I consider normal a insult.

I agree 100%! Nobody wants to be excluded, so everyone will go with flow to remain apart of something. I take my pride in my individuality, and I've come to the realization that I won't mesh well with everyone and I'm cool with that.

I dunno about weirdo, freaks, and oddballs. But I agree, a lot gay guys are pretty generic these days. Whenever I check out gay sites/apps, the majority of guys are the tattooed lumbersexual types.

Yeah I do, but a lot of them have ended up conforming to fit in.

I notice some gay men automatically assume you are in to the whole circuit party, porn star loving, adidas high top wearing culture. Personally, it's not my thing.

I was being tongue in cheek. But I appreciate rebels who embrace their eccentricities and the things that make them different. Too many people dress the same, think the same, and live the same. It's nauseating.

They don't feel comfortable being weird around you.

I always tell people it's easy to tell when I like a guy because that's when my alter ego Becky comes our. Honestly I'm probably annoying as hell (hi pualflexes) when I'm comfortable around someone because I'm a weird, peppy white girl in black man's body.

My favorite quote on love is

Dr SuessWe're all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness — and call it love — true love.

The new economy happened. You have to have a job now to survive and they are more precarious and employment has been stripped down to banali by economies of scale. Where a freak could work at a record store, used book store or some arty spot rent gentrification and ebay/ amazon/etc wiped out quirky store freaks could work at. Also demographically everyone is older and usually grow out of it.

I think I get what you're saying. Can you clarify?

I know that corporate America tends to encourage people to conform as much as possible though.

It has hopefully dawned on many folks out there that mere posing impresses fewer and fewer people these days.

If you happen to be a real porn/rock/whatever star, and wish to look the part, well, more power to you. icon_idea.gif

Having little or next to nothing against your name and posing around with tons of tats and dozens of piercings has gotten old and tired, and very few people fall for it.

    They're just not alone anymore.

Long are the days when the jocks would only be into sports and the nerds were the only ones who could be into comic books. There's barely any outcasting anymore. All those freaks and weirdos have friends and realised that they don't need to be a stereotype to be part of a group of friends with shared interests.

Now as for the basicness of gay guys... i guess they just stick to one another and since they're louder, they tend to look like they are a majority.

Speaking with logic and wisdom on the internet? Looks like you're the freaky weirdo now. icon_lol.gif j/k
