I'm currently listening to The History of the United State series of lectures from the great courses. While I'm enjoying myself greatly its very obvious that the professor has a liberal, slightly libertarian world view. I'm fine with this since so do I. I do enjoy hearing different, yet cordial view points. I dislike anyone who assumes their stance is the obvious and only correct stance. I dislike idealouges just as much. With that said do any of you conservatives have any recommendations for conservative audio books or conservative podcast, that will satiate my appetite for well thought out yet humble opposing view points. Thanks in advance.

Conservatism is more personal philosophy than Liberalism, and better expressed in books.

Conservatives believe that if you get a $100k bonus, you should be free to buy a new luxury car if you choose. Liberals will call you selfish and mean and make you feel guilty....because they want your $100K to feed the poor or whatever to feel good about themselves. If you protest, they'll send federal agents with guns to jail you.

Conservatives will ask...what happens when that $100k is gone? The poor will be hungry again, but your initiative to work hard will be gone too. This is why socialism / economic redistribution is a disaster. The poor and the rich both lose their initiative to work.

To understand this better, read "The Road to Serfdom" by Friedrich von Hayek. Another good book is "The Virtue of Selfishness" by Ayn Rand.
