Conservatives are More Tolerant Than Liberals, Studies Show.

We are often told, usually by liberals, that liberals are exceedingly tolerant. “Tolerance” is one of their buzzwords but, in practice, that can be awfully hard to see. While they are exceedingly tolerant of their own viewpoints, they tend to get a little upset when confronted by opinions which differ from their own.

According to a Pew Research Study, 44% of people who are, as the study defines them, “consistently liberal” have hidden, blocked, unfriended, or stopped following someone on social media due to differences in political beliefs. Only 31% of those who are consistently conservative did the same. This goes beyond social media, too. The same study showed that 24% of liberals have completely ended a friendship over politics, while that is the case for only 16% of conservatives.

Thanks. You've convinced me. I'm switching to being a conservative.

This thread is just shows the empirical evidence for what we already see on these boards...that liberals are intolerant.

Fortunately for all of us I'm no longer one of those tiresome intolerant liberals.

My best friend is conservative, but refuses to vote until the GOP changes its mind on gay rights.
    And he's straight.

Conservatives want to take away gay marriage rights. Why would a married gay man like myself want to be friends with anyone who is trying to force the government to end my marriage? I'm tolerant, not stupid.

^ I noticed the OP isn't responding. He must not be tolerant of people who want an explanation as to why we should tolerate people who are trying to take away and deny us our rights.

I've only un-friended one person on Facebook over his political position. It wasn't that he was simply conservative. His views were extreme, to say the least, and he was verbally abusive to those with whom he doesn't agree.

    Does this make me intolerant?

Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views. - William F. Buckley, Jr.

I don't think you can make big pronouncements about a persons tolerance based on a political persuasion.

I'd say the top three people who's shit list I've made are

    Theantijock
    Radd
    DestinHarber

All of them are staunch democrats, all of them are unforgiving and would probably shoot me on sight. However, I don't know anyone from the conservaposse who has me on ignore.

    Go figure!icon_rolleyes.gif

I was relieved to find I wasn't on your imagined list. Maybe I'm on the secondary squad. But as a "staunch Democrat" myself I know that I, nor any of these 3 guys, would "shoot you on sight".

But kinda disappointed to see who you named. I guess because you have DestinHarbor, whom I've always admired. theantijock said at one point he was putting me on Ignore, but I didn't reciprocate, an apparently touchy guy. In fact I block no one in forums, just for email.

Radd I'm not sure about. I really don't know what he thinks. But I respond to his threads, and theanitjock, too (if he sees my posts), I hope civilly, or at least proportional to their own posts.

What I fear I see here is the divisiveness among gay guys that these non-gay Right Wingers are trying to foment here. It's OK for gays to fight and argue, I think it's in the blood. But shoot you? Even if that is hyperbole, merely rhetoric, I hate to hear that.

This is the dissension these outsiders seek. I ask you, and every gay guy here, not to fall into that trap they're trying to set here. I won't suggest anything so cliché as a group hug, or to start singing Kumbaya, no silly nonsense like that.

But maybe just to step back and reevaluate what's going on here. This is a gay men's site, for health & fitness. Plus other topics we wish to discuss. There are outside agents of disruption & discord here, that I worry may be achieving their goals. Please, let's not let any of us be an unwitting part of that agenda.
