I'm in Fort Lauderdale for a few months, and the "gay" gym, Steel Gym, (formerly Island City Fitness) has permanently closed as of Feb 1st. Their Miami location is still operating, I think.

So I went club shopping. There doesn't seem to be a good replacement for Steel, as in a predominantly gay gym. But here's a quick review of what I found.

    1. LA FITNESS: Nice equipment, 3 lane pool and multiple locations. But it's too crowded and the staff is rough around the edges. They're high pressure sales tactics too.
    2. PLANET FITNESS: No bench presses, but only $10/mo.
    3. 24 HOUR FITNESS: Similar to LA Fitness with the pool, but old equipment. Less crowded and nicer staff kinda makes up for it.
    4. ZOO Gym: I belonged here before, but never got to check them out. Great place, though.
    5. YOUFIT: My new gym. Best equipment, friendly people, and buff guys. Only $20/mo. for the every location pass, and I can bring a guest for free.

I know I'm missing a few, so feel free to add any.

I wouldn't call you fit gay and most of the guys there would only be interested in your money or be very offended if you tried anything gay with them. You fit is definitely a workout only gym. I use to go to the one in Sunrise, or was that Plantation? I'll be rejoining when I move back.

There's a gym I like that used to be called "The Firm" and I forget what it's called now. It's located on the southeast side of where U.S. 1 heading north veers East at Sunrise Blvd. It's a really nice gym, albeit no pool. And plenty of eye candy.

Having just moved south of Miami and now searching for a gym, this is a thread I'll keep an eye on.

This being the 'burbs south of even South Miami the pickings seem pretty slim. As for why training in a gay gym matters, let's just say that particularly here it'd be nice to have options without having to schlep more than 20 minutes, north of Coral Way, to the traffic and parking congestion of Brickell and South Beach.
