Why is it that whenever someone creates a forum....

It always ends up in a long, pointless argument that has NOTHING to do with the original post?

I totally understand if people were actually debating about the topic but majority of the time the debate turns into an argument that has nothing at all to do with the original post. Can't even get past page one without someone deciding it's time to make some sort of personal attack and destroy the whole post.

A good example is that lunatic robbaker hijacking your wonderful thread about the importance of marriage with all his extreme right wing hyperbole and fictitious statistics about gay men. If I caused some damage by angrily replying to that ignorant self loathing fool, I am very sorry but I felt that someone had to make an honest attempt to put him in his place and expose him for the stupid man that he is in reality.

Because some people would rather indulge in bitchy squabbles than simply click on an ignore button. I guess they don't have enough drama in their lives to keep them occupied offline, so they use forums as an excuse to start some.

When it happens to one of my threads it just reminds me that everything isn't about me. I'm not some exalted king whose wish to discuss a particular subject must be obeyed. I just scroll past the bickering and read the post that matter to me. Also this is a forum. Its a non time sensitive text based communication platform. Going off topic isn't as time consuming or disruptive as it would be during a spoken conversation.

I remember you started that marriage thread that dissolved into a flame war. BUT it stayed on topic. Apparently, a lot of people on here are against marriage and want to criticize people who are married or would like to find a husband.icon_confused.gif

This place would be utterly boring if everyone was well behaved.

Sometimes I'm entertained by the crazies, and I'll even join in. Other times I'm like MrFuscle and just scroll past.

You are slowly becoming my favourite poster. Almost everything you say has me nodding.

Technically it means, quoted for truth. But in my head I'm saying, Quite fucking true!

This is why there needs to be moderators in the forums.

Agreed. Even if it means that sometimes I might get my own knuckles cracked with the ruler. This current alternative of near total anarchy & chaos is unpleasant & ultimately unsustainable. Because it's an open door to political and anti-gay activists coming here with a disruptive agenda, if not actually attempting to take over this site.
