Elton John Dragged Janet Jackson in a New Interview with Rolling Stone

Elton John came for Janet Jackson in a new interview with Rolling Stone. And it’s ugly. Very ugly.

The “Your Song” maestro is known for his other-worldly pipes and piano skills, so he doesn’t take kindly to artists he thinks lip-sync. Need we remind you of his decade-long tête-à-tête with Madonna, where he accused her of miming and dubbed her a “fairground stripper”? They made up, but it seems John has switched gears to Jackson, who he thinks is guilty of the same crime.

“You know, f–king music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, ’This is the greatest show—four and a half stars.’ It’s f–king lip-synced! Hello! That’s not a show!” John told the magazine. “I’d rather go and see a drag queen. F–k off.” (The quote is most likely referencing Jackson’s current Unbreakable World Tour, which has garnered critical acclaim.)

He should run for POTUS. We don't care if he's not a citizen. He just has to be brash loudmouthed celebrity who picks on women.

Although a bit harsh, I have to agree. I am not going to pay money to watch someone lip sync. I could just stay at ho.e and watch the music video instead.

Virtually all music videos are dubbed afterwards. And most movie musicals. But I can see Sir Elton's point about a live concert performance, if his claims about Jackson are true.

In the Winter of 1977-78 I saw Liza Minnelli in "The Act" on Broadway. It became a bit of a scandal that she was alleged to have lip-synced the second of 2 back-to-back numbers. That was heresy for a live Broadway musical at that time.

Her defenders said it was because she was so breathless after the first energetic number that she couldn't immediately sing the second. Plus she was being flung all over the place, as I recall, by her backup dancers like she was a cheerleader. In the days before wireless body microphones it was impossible to get any good sound from her, nor could she project her voice unaided. I'm not sure Liza ever admitted to lip syncing.

Well, it didn't stop her from winning the 1978 Tony for Leading Actress in a Musical. But it did put a damper on other similar lip-syncing attempts on Broadway, except possibly for musical reviews. And with the advent of wireless body mics there was little excuse to do it. Sir Elton may be right, though of course delivered with his typical bitchy venom.

the bitch can't help himself. I don't know why he feels the need to slag off other singers. Once a pissy queen always a pissy queen.

There are many types of performance. Some sing, some dance, and some lip sing. Not everyone sing 'live' and that's ok. I always wondering why people would want to britney icon_eek.gif live, but hey.

    He's probably just bitter.

It's all SHOW biz. None of it is real... Especially Elton John's hair.

When one pays to see and hear a SINGER sing, one has the legitimate expectation that said singer is in fact singing live; otherwise, why would the performer need to be there at all? You might as well watch a video of their performance on a huge screen.

Am I the only one on this board who remembers when he accused Madonna of the same thing because she was able to dance and sing in her shows while he sits at a piano?

Oh, I guess I'm not common, since I referred to him as Sir Elton in my post. But like others here, I still think he's a bitchy old queen. icon_razz.gif

I can see paying for either if I was actually a concert goer.

Either a man/woman can sit at a piano for an entire 90-120min and sing live or one can go so an artist go put on an amazing SHOW. And in that performance it would not be all about vocals, but the entire show instead.

were it not for getting an incredible show and not just up to vocals there wouldn't be all of that great looking "extra" stuff (dancing, lazer, acrobatics) anyway.

JANET has always been about the voice ANDY incredible choreography and dancing... ALWAYS... Since her debut. Choreography in "Control" and "Rythm" nation are what put her on the map. Not her vocals.

To each his own. Go watch a calm piano player (love him, don't get it twisted) sing live or pay to go see a circus like show.
It's very hard to get both at the same time.

I think the only singers *I* know of that can pull tremendous choreography and acrobatics off are Pink And Beyonce

Janet has a weak, breathy voice that has to be augmented with background instruments playing the melody. But she's a great dancer and entertainer. I would go to one of her concerts if I felt like seeing a music video being reproduced live.

Elton on the other hand has a really good voice for a pop singer. I heard "Tiny Dancer" on the radio last night and was struck anew by what a good singer he is (or was). He even sounded good as a blue-eyed soul singer in the late 70's.

Elton is angry at Miss Janet because her schedule wouldn't allow her to perform at a Gala hosted by him. What's interesting is that he wasn't so fickle when he approached her to record a track with him from AIDA. Interesting to see how this lip-queen rewards favors from "friends" lending a helping voice.

bitter queen, how appropriate the Janet and Elton John duet for AIDA is titled "I KNOW THE TRUTH"
