So we'll be looking at profiles of guys begging to have their holes flooded, and to the side we'll see the usual bareback porn features and ads for poppers...and underneath all of that we'll be seeing a safe sex reminder? Sounds effective!

That is a completely useless statistic! And shamefully bad "science". You can't make any kind of conclusion based off of only 70 interviews. And these people "believed" they got HIV from someone on the Internet... So?!? Lots of people believe the Easter bunny exists. Doesn't make it so. And you would need to compare gays who didn't use apps to gays who do and what (if any) the difference in std rates were. The apps are not to blame. People making unwise sexual health choices are. Now, using apps as an advertising platform to reach men with messages about their safe sex options is a good idea. Slut shaming and blaming apps for HIV infection is stupid and bad science.

The dating apps should definitely give free ad space to community health messages - but this is obviously not enough in itself. To combat the soaring STD rates in the gay male (MSM) community there need to be bold initiatives around PreP, easy access to free STD testing and treatment and hard-hitting messages about the increasing risks of Truvada resistant HIV, drug resistant gonorrhea, beautiful genital warts etc etc etc.

We are at a point where HIV can be effectively eradicated within a generation, but this will require significant investment from public health bodies, endorsement by gay businesses, and an end to the stigmatisation of HIV within our communities.

robbaker saidBut liberal fags want those to have unsafe sex on these dating apps They don't believe in actual dating getting to know someone first. No their liberal gay agenda is to sleep first then get to know one after . disgusting!

I'm a "liberal fag" and I have next to no interest in hooking up and always date for a bit before sex. But I guess I'm lying since my experience doesn't match up to your perception of my political views.

People aren't willing to talk about HIV status on these apps. But they're more than willing to talk about what they want to do sexually with a complete stranger.

The prevalence of HIV in gay men should be common knowledge by now. The app just makes it easier to make contact and arrange for casual sex. In general, if you're hooking up and not using protection, you're playing a dangerous game.

Perhaps the education has stopped in the gay community. Or maybe because people with HIV are living and looking healthier than they did 20 years ago, the in your face threat is no longer there. Anyway it is sad that the figures are so high, you would have thought our community would have known better by now.
