I've witnessed similar transformations camping in the high desert. Spring snowmelt yields spectacular flowers. A single summer rain changes the golden straw color of the grasses to seafoam and turquoise.

Holy shit that's beautiful! And to think my friend just came back from his vacation near there today and missed it.

Walt Disney's "The Living Desert" is still a great flick! But, best to see it live and in person.

Really appreciate the post and link! Biked through DV a couple of years ago ... It was nice and had color, but not the bloom.

Yeah... I live in Lancaster, and work at Edwards AFB, just on the edge of the Mojave Desert and Death Valley... had no problems with my allergies for 4-5 years, and BAM, icon_confused.gificon_cry.gif just getting over a month and a half of near-death, from sinus headaches behind the eyes, flowing sinuses, massive chest congestion (which needed about 45 minutes in a hot shower every morning to loosen up and be able to spit out before work, big brown gobs), loss of voice for almost 2 weeks, sneezing, and coughing... all due to the "super bloom" this year... and I never had allergies in my life at all until I moved to the Antelope Valley/Mojave Desert area of SoCal 10 years ago... fuck the "super bloom", icon_evil.gif regardless of how beautiful everything looks... I was in hell...

Remarkable beauty, delicate and transient, yet so tough and resilient, adapted to such an extreme environment.
