Vegan, aside from (certified sustainably harvested) salmon once or twice a week. (There's a history of dementia in my family, and salmon's a great brain food.)

I've been a Vegetarian since I was 12. (For the right ETHICAL reasons. Not some selfish health nonsense.)
It takes some time and patience, but you can absolutely be a Vegetarian and not be party to the cause of death and suffering of animal life. Now Veganism is truly a full time job in itself. It's a way of life that I really admire. icon_cool.gif

Truly epic vegan roasted banana ice cream recipe:
    http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017568-vegan-roasted-banana-ice-cream

I make this often using an old Donvier that I bought at a thrift store. I fire roast the bananas over a gas grill in a disposable foil pan. It's very impressive for dinner parties. Not a vegan though, so that's all I got. Cheers, Guys!

I'm Vegan. Pretty much it's for ethical reasons. I grew up eating meat as most cultures do and I did enjoy the taste. But when you dig deep and think about taking responsibility for your actions and also about ethics, veganism is the way to go.

Given you have access to the correct foods and nutrients, veganism is 100% doable in this day and age. But yeh, the whole exploitation and oppression of sentient animals can only stop if someone takes action. I would love to live in a world where we finally made laws to make that illegal much the same that we abolished slavery hundreds of years ago.

Im fully vegetarian and i dont do eggs or fish either. Been like that since i was 9 purely because i dont want unnecessary suffering for others. Cow's milk i dont really like, (almond tastes better for me) but i will admit i still take cheese.

Why all the rage? It's a vegan thread icon_biggrin.gif

I actually faced more opposition from family members on going vegan than I did for coming out.
I was 20 and they thought I'd perish within an year from anemia or protein deficiency.
But it worked out great, and they started to hop onboard icon_smile.gif

I was never vegan, but I WAS ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 20 years (since middle school, up until two years ago).

I quit at the prodding from a bodybuilder friend of mine who insisted I could never reach my goals without eating meat. Whether that's true or not, I did start eating chicken and have gained a LOT of muscle since making that decision. I still find it difficult to eat other types of meat, though.

It is very difficult to get enough protein as a true Vegan, so protein shakes are essential if you want to gain any size at all.

I have tried every Vegan protein powder out there and they all taste horrible, except this one. (Sun Warrior being the worst....it actually tastes like dirt.) I highly recommend Vega and have been using it for years now. I tastes great and gets the job done. My favorite flavors are the chocolate and vanilla. The mocha isn't bad but I've never really liked mocha anything. The vanilla chai is good too but I prefer the plain vanilla in smoothies.
