"Because McDonald's is frequented by many children, it is especially important to..." be open and affirming!

On the basis of this commercial, I just may have to go get a quarter pounder. It's been ages.

Writing on cups... is that the new way to text? icon_smile.gif
We used to talk into cans, so I suppose this is an improvement....

Nice that the kid wasn't a stereotype, either.

Oh shit, the narrow minded bible thumping screwballs are at it again with condemning companies that show gay positive ads. When are these stupid assholes going to get a lifeicon_question.gificon_mad.gif

*That* is how a real parent should react, not by screaming at them, beating them, throwing them out of the house, or even just acting as if they no longer exist. A parent is supposed to love their child, even if they aren't what they expected.

A subtle ad, but with a powerful message.

Especially, the emotional response of the son as he realizes his worst fears are *not* the ones going to happen.

Congratulations on getting it right, McDonald's.

I don't understand why a fast food joint is making commercials like this in the first place. Why can't they just try and deceive us into craving their cheap slop? It's obvious they're not trying to sell us their products anymore. They're pandering to get people to buy their shit out of sympathy to their fake causes.

Haha. McDonalds is trying to turn around falling sales. This attempt is better than KFC desperate attempt to ignite their brand with the Colonel Sanders comedian actors.

They are trying to appeal with a good feeling about their huge brand. Trying to compete with Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, Chipotle and other new brands.
The coffee product actually looks good when they show it in the end.

I don't know if it is effective for them, but I understand what they are attempting to do. Change the perception of their brand. I am seeing it in their remodels of their store. They say the all day breakfast is working, but their franchisees are hating it.
McDonalds is still McDonalds to me.

McDonald's ads haven't been about the food for quite some time. Long gone are the days of "two all beef patties, special sauce..."; you rarely ever see any food at all in a McDonald's ad anymore. Their entire marketing campaign for the past several years has been to brand their restaurant as a "happy place" where people share a part of their lives.

There's a certain amount of logic to that. After all, unless you've been living under a rock, you already know exactly what their food is. It hasn't changed in decades.

It is a completely devious and evil strategy, though.

It's called "marketing". McDonald's was slumping in sales and has been working very hard over the last few years to change it's brand. They've altered their menu, changed the interior, the recipes, leadership along with other changes to compete with the Shake Shaks and other competitors. And its working as their stock and sales have rebounded significantly. They are trying to present themselves as a place where life happens (where you can have a cup of coffee and talk with your dad) and draw more customers into the restaurant instead of just the drive through. Companies pander... to everyone. That's what they do.

LOL. The last 2 times I was in McD's was in Phoenix, GayBowl 2010 and 2013. The team decided to eat there. I know "Big Mac" and "Quarter pounder"... but was the McRib back? Or should I go with the chicken breast option? Is the Filet-o-Fish that my grandmother used to order back when the earth (or at least I) was young still on the menu? Everyone else just walked up to the counter and ordered. I felt like a tourist studying the menu.

At last year's GB, in San Diego, thankfully my partner and I ditched the team and stayed in Del Mar. The local sports bar has an awesome lamb burger!

As kids, especially road trips, we always wanted McD's. Maybe once a month we went, to get mom out of the kitchen. I guess that was the "you deserve a break today" era.

    Don't forget: "Coke adds life"....

LOL. Oh I understand marketing quite well. And I understand exactly what they're doing. It's just sickening to see such disingenuousness, even in a fast food commercial. And even more sickening to see how many stupid gay men will actually start going there because of it.

But you know what's even scarier? When the pendulum swings in the other direction (and it always does), these same ads will feature a wholesome straight family insinuating something anti-gay while sipping their lattes.

I don't get it. What is the message? McDonald's loves the gays? McDonald's welcomes gay money? Is there a problem with businesses discriminating against gays in Taiwan as here in the US? Micky D needs to air a commercial here in the US showing two perfectly coiffed gay dads in tight, deep V tees that accentuate their biceps and abs and tight shorts bringing their adopted Asian gaybie into a McDonalds to get a Happy Meal. THEN I'D BE IMPRESSED.

    I'M LOVIN' IT!

I know. I know. Baby steps.

Or even better a commercial that shows a McDonald's restaurant hosting a gay couple's wedding with an actor that looks like that Kentucky bitch officiating as the justice of the peace and others who look like the pizza parlor owners that won't cater gay weddings as waiters and other actors that look like the florists that won't do gay weddings pinning boutonnières on the grooms! NOW THAT'S BALLSY!

That was beautiful! Now I need my double quarter pounder! But hold the fries, please.

P.S.: A certain someone who posted to this thread needs to be banned for (psychotic) hate speech... it's way over the top at this point.

That was sweet. Not sure what it had to do with McDonald's. I guess they're trying to out-PC Starbucks.
